Full Hydro steering issue

While driving at trail speed or faster the steering wheel binds up. i have replaced the fluid and filter and inspected the ujoints in the steering links. When i turn to the right the steering wheel will stop once i hit the steering stop. When i turn to the left i can keep turning the wheel when it hits the steering stop or if a rock is in the way and there is noticeble less power when turning left. My guess there is a internal blown seal or stuck valve. What kind of checks can i do before tearing apart.

The system in question was on the jeep when purchased. It was working fine till it sat for a few months. It has a Saur-danfoss Orbitial valve with a double ended ram. running a remote resevoir\filter combo

It looks like a 2" x 8" ram and the resevoir is mounted above the pump. the system was working fine since installed 6 years ago just recently it has loss of power turning to the left only.

You've mentioned that a few times. I was asking more questions because I didn't feel like I had enough information to answer your original question, not for the sake of upping my post count.

Looks like the seal on the driver's side of the ram is leaky - that could be a part of the problem. (So is your diff...)

You could try emptying the system and refilling it with new, cleaner fluid too.

Yes the driver side does weap a bit. the end cap for the ram will not tighten down the seal seems fine as the shaft is never wet with fluid just the stain you see.

Yes i have replaced the filter and fluid with minimal improvments.
is there a floating valve when you are not turning so that the fluid just goes back to the resevior that moves one way or the other when you turn the wheel.

Well, there should be no leaks. Period.

Uh, that 'valve' you're talking about is the orbital.

yes i know it is a orbital. just wondering how it works on the inside if there is some floating diverter that getting stuck to cause the binding when driving. It's like the steeering is trying to steer both ways when driving till you move the wheel far enough 1 way or the other then frees up till it hits the steering stop

There is a gear rotor, spool and sleeve that has some centering springs. Send me a pm with your email addy and I'll send you some pages from a manual, I think the instructions are for a Danfoss.

You can check the cylinder to see if the piston is bypassing by steering it full left shutting off your engine. Remove the left hose at the cylinder. Plug the hose and use another hose to direct oil from the cylinder to a bucket. Start the engine and steer left, if you get a stream of oil it's leaking at the piston or the o-ring where the 2 rods screws together. If it doesn't leak shut off engine, reconect hose check oil level and repeat but steer right.

The leaks on your cylinder are probably not the problem unless it's spraying when steering. The lip seal on the rod sounds like it's ok but the o-ring and back-up ring are weaping between the rod end and tube.

It sounds like the orbitrol if it gets worse when engine speed increases.

So if the orings are leaking in the ram then that could possibly be my binding because of the different pressures acting on the piston or just the reason why i have no power when turning left and the the steering wheel will not stop turning. Either way can i rebuild them or is it a send in kind of thing because of special tools.

Has anyone taken a orbital valve apart. PSC says you need a special kinda press because of some bevel springs inside as you line things up? From what they charge to fix it it is almost worth just buying new parts instead of rebuilding them. Unless i can do it my self

Not many people have the patience to help those whose grammar is at the second grade level. I was trying to help. There's plenty of threads out there that discuss orbitals and full hydro. Maybe, just maybe, someone else has experienced a similar problem once before and they posted about it.

I wasn't trying to pad my post count. I've got the Lots O Post Thread for that. Set it back to nill for all I care.

Okay, I don't know jack poop about hydro steering and I just didn't see a TB so that was my only guess. Just out of curiosity, where is it?

there is no track bar on this setup it has a 4 link in the front
