Fuel Saving Ideas.............

Learn how to draft behind the 18 wheelers! :nono:

First of all, I agree completely about the "ride a bike" suggestion. If your in good enough shape, the benefits are huge (not to mention fun as hell IMO). I ride a modded Giant Rincon all the time.

In terms of your jeep, I highly reccomend reading my E85 conversion write up on the Jeepforum:

Has anyone tride this HHO technology, where you fill a mason jar with distilled water and through electrolitic plates you convert it to HHO and send that down your intake. It is supposed to help 30 to 40 percent. I am looking into it.

I work with a guy who has improved his mpg by 30% consistantly. Im going to do it for fun just to see what happens. heres a video with some info:

I need to be honest here. The percentage improvement I reported in this video was an anonymily based on one tankful. In reality the average MPG didn't change all that much WITH THE CELL PRODUCING GAS AT FULL ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE.

But, please don't let this discourage you. Current experiments producing HHO under vacuum are showing incredible promise. Keep watching and see. This is really getting good now.

Basically, it didn't work for me, but my brother-in-law, knows a guy's sister...

That was just a random video I found for those that have no idea about the technology. My "buddy" has been tweaking his system for over a year to get results.

I put on a Rusty's CAI, K&N conical filter, Dynomax catback, and a TBS (yeah, yeah, I know, but the $50 Summitbucks I got with the catback makes me feel not quite so stupid about this), and gave it a tuneup, and saw my mileage go from 12-15 to 18-20, with a few cold weather trips netting 23mpg averages. Keeping your tires aired up, not carrying unnecessary gears and tools, and using cruise can also make a pronounced difference.

I'm seriously considering, having just read Comanche's write-up, doing the electric fan conversion, and putting in the APN header and getting a headpipe fabbed, and seeing if I can squeak anymore miles out. I'm trying to do all of this on a pretty tight budget to avoid spending so much on name brand parts that it takes 10 years to recoupe my $, but so far, what I have spent has been saved in gas within a year for me. I've also considered getting a Scanguage, thinking that seeing my mileage plummit whenever I put my foot in it, in real-time, will help me correct some bad driving habits.

Another option that's been suggested is something like the Hypertech E-con, but I don't know anyone personally whose used one, and at over 300 bucks, I'm thinking I'd rather do all of the other stuff first. Anyone used one, and care to offer some feedback?

Wish I could, but the smell by the time I get to work would not be good (no place to shower once there) and the road between the prarie path and work is well....scary as hell on a bicycle! I was severely un-nerving when I did it in 2000 and even worse when I did it in 2006!

Over the last week I've been accelerating slowly and driving the speed limit. Today's figures are....

12.9 mpg. That is up from 10.5.

Next week I have the 4.56 gears installed. We'll see if the mpg changes.

It will go down at first, because I'll be doing rabbit starts for fun. lol

Also I'm going to see if I can spin the wheels in 2 wheel drive, I doubt it but you never know.

Even jumping off of the line it will probably go up.

Thats what I did. 2005 civic, pulling 40 mpg avg if I drive it right.

After factoring the car payment + insurance vs fuel + tires with the xj, I'm coming out ahead about $40 a month.

$200 1990 honda civic. $40 to fill and 325 miles... the money I save in gas from driving the honda to work and back (50 miles a day) pays for the insurance/gas for the Jeep. Not to mention its quiet, smooth, and has cruise control :)

I saw on the news this morning that there is a small company in Huntsville Texas making bio-diesel for $0.85 a gallon.

Also change your o2 sensor if its got over 50,000 miles on it, and a fuel filter also. I got about 2 MPG better out of it.

Isn't the fuel filter in the gas tank?

No, its mounted up by the drivers side rear shock mount.
