Yes you would probably have to run 16" wheels.
You can run aftermarket BS'd 15" wheels
You'll also need to build a tie rod and draglink - the WJ stuff is the wrong length and will not work, can not really be cut down (and isnt very strong, so not worth the work).
You'll need to build a trackbar mount and weld it on, and a new trackbar.
I believe that JKS has a kit with the correct trackbar/mount (not sure if mount is bolt-on.
You'll need new longer brake lines - the wj caliper's banjo bolt is way lower than a normal XJ caliper.
You'll need a set of late model unit bearings.
JKS has a spacer that you run in between the unit bearings (or can make your own)
Teeves will work with a 15" steel, the aftermarket al. Ones I tried didn't even come close to fitting.
Garr, I feel that driving in NYC would be hard on brakes, no matter what you tried. No problems thus far on an XJ, 5spd., driven to the trails and back.

dont blame ya, if you can invest the time, it's not much more expensive, if any, to build a d44. the parts seem to cost the same as d30 stuff. and an axle to start with is going to cost as much as a wj brake/knuckle swap anyways.good info, thanks Cal. i considered this swap but have all ready purchased new tires, and my wheels are 15" aluminum with 3.25 BS. i wasnt so concerned about the brake upgrade as i was with the steering set up. (OTK). i then considered the teraflex knuckle but then found that they need to be adapted to the early D30s. i have an 89 with a HP non disco D30 and their website says i would need to get newer style calipers and rotors, and i think newer style unit bearings. that is a big expense and i really didnt want to invest that kind of cash on a D30. guess i am out of luck here.

still have the WJ set up.......
I may be starting to sound like a broken record but,
I can really use this stuff.
If you split it up,
I will take the PADS, ROTORS, BALL JOINTS, TIE ROD & DRAG LINK.
PM me & we can talk price.
Thanks
