so hears the deal i have been thinking about goin to i beams on my front end of my xj but after a long talk with my buddies and some other js guys i think i might just go the route of coilover bypass bump on my front end.
i understand all the fab work that will have to be done but my questions revolves on the axle side of things. now wider is a little more sturdy and spacers are not the best idea. should i run a wider axle? maybe a full width? or will that be TOO wide?

thought and opinions and suggestions all welcome fire away boys

i know right.... but have you ever seen the t&j j10 it has a solid axle front and straight kills it.... pretty gnarly setup 3.0 triple coil with a bump

has anyone ever seen an xj rear setup as spring under maybe that setup with a c notch in the so called frame so you still have up travel but you are able to keep a somewhat lower stance when running 35" tires?

i havent decided yet...i dont have the tools or knowledge to do it myself so i would have ot have someone help me or do it at there shop.

im still thinking about getting jims d30 and just keeping the solid axle and just goin coilover bypass bump...

I've seen it at a race and it looked tiddy's I so wish i would have got some pics but i was drinking and fifty riding I think ther were Comanche springs but I could be wrong...btw the jeep was not in the race just in someones camp.

Ajax Auto/Billy Bunch built one of the 1st Jeepspeeds and they put the springs under the axle. I recall they claimed they could get at least 14" of travel with that setup and obviously axle wrap was minimized. I believe they got their springs from National Spring down in the San Diego area. Clive quickly added to the rules that springs must be in stock location and that was the end of that.

There were a few sets of springs up for sale a while ago but I haven't seen anything lately. You can always call John Kearney at Ajax Auto (in Coachella sorry don't have the number handy) and I am sure he'll be glad to help you get the set up right.

I've been talking to Big Offroad about some springs for the MJ, he mentioned they did a custom spring under pack recently for a Jeepspeed type build. Hit him up for details.

Did you talk to Troy? Let us know what comes of this, I had thought about talking to them about some leaf springs since they're local to me but it seems all the go fast guys say to stay away from alcan.

i bet i could take my deavers back to deaver and have them reworked to be setup for a spring under....

It probably wouldn't be worth it, you'd have to have new main springs built (longer and more arch) and that would include at least the first two for the military wrap. You'd be better off selling yours and buying a spring under. But be ready to spend $750 plus for a custom pack from Deaver.

Yea I was talking to him about them. The thing about Alcan is they use less springs in their pack, and a thicker material. This is not ideal since you don't get as smooth of a progressive rate. Deaver uses 10 or so super thin springs, Alcan usually uses 6 or 7. Alcan makes a great spring though. My XJ ran Alcan's it's entire lifted life. I loved them, however I could see at times where a Deaver pack would have done better, my back end would buck from time to time. This video was shot with the alcans:

well lets see what alcan can come up with....

or on the other hand since our buildshave ventured far and away from 1700 what would stop us form using a toyota pickup deaver? because they sure are spring under. and with the long travel like were going for we will have to reinforce out hangers might as well use poly performance and relocate them
