Fordyce Run, August 14th

yes a hitch counts, but you need a way to connect a strap to it. I know some people just use the normal pin, but I'm not sure if that's NAXJA approved. 4wd shops also sell pieces that go into the hitch and have either a recovery shackle or a hook.

for the front you'll need hooks, you do know about the neccesary brackets right? (or an aftermarket bumper designed to take a pull)

Yeah, use actual tow hook brackets and BOTH bolts. Some of us know first hand one bolt won't cut it.

A normal pin through a reciever works very well. Stick the loop of the strap into the reciever and stick the pin through it.......very effective.

Yes, I know about those, and have a set on my other XJ that I'm selling. I'll just pull them off and use them on my rig. Only problem is that they are rusted on, that's why I haven't attempted to take the time to get them off.

Eric I got some hooks you can use, I will dig them out if you want. Are you going to Happy Dayz tomorrow?

Dave- Thanks for the offer. I won't be at the Diner tomorrow, as I have a previous obligation. I still have your hood vents...

I've done this many, many times. Reason I was asking is because what I consider acceptable, might not be what NAXJA considers to be acceptable.

I don't know you guys well enough to smack talk, but I'll have some fun anyway... If the thought of using a strap to get me out of a situation comes across anyone's mind - I can guarantee you're gonna need more than a strap to get me out... :D

I have camping equipment, but I'd be up to finishing the trail Sat and heading back home Sat night if things go good. Fordyce is a fairly challenging trail like the Rubicon so it cannot be taken too lightly either.

If you're going to drive your rig be sure you meet the requirements Jess posted earlier in this thread. Your name is as red of the rest of ours so I'm sure you're welcome, just check with CRASH. If you don't meet the requirements you may be able to hitch a ride with someone. If someone goes back to Sacramento Saturday it would be easy for them to drop you at your Jeep.

just want to know if there is room? you guys have been planning this all year and i have plans for the week (houseboat). didn't think i would even be close to tahoe this weekend.

Jes

thanks jes but it was all you. :smoker: :roflmao:

Kernel, are you the guy I meet early this year at Hollister with the 87' xj with long arms etc? Was your rig dark blue? Just wondering, I think I met you briefly. I met the NAXJA group after the creek incident.

that be me.

Well, then hope to see you on Saturday. You have a nice rig there man. Hope to make it out to Hollister in the winter when the Sierra trails are snowed out. I have to try that creek section next time I go there. I liked Hollister, but think I will like it better when it's nice and muddy. I finally washed out the mud from the back of my radiator and have enjoyed a 15-20 degree cooling effect. I put in the hood vents to help with this, but should have washed out the dirt right away, the hood vents look cool anyways and do help a bit.

thanks but i put some dents in it going through tank trap about a month ago.

it was good meeting you the other day Kernel, show up Saturday, it'll be fun. there'll be a lot of XJs, but I doubt yours is the one we'll be waiting on.

So who is going to be the "weak link"? Somebody has to be, it's not a problem, but does everyone have at least 33s/2 lockers or 35s/1 locker?
