Ford explorer starting problems

hi,

This is not a question about a Jeep but maybe someone could now.

A friend of mine has a Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 1993, automatic, it has this problem: when he try to start the car all the lights work fine but the car does not start, it not even crank. If he goes directly to the solenoid and make a bridge it does start but it does not start from the key.

Any comments...

external solinoid? If he's jumping it from one connection to the other thats the problem.

Yes, he goes to the external solenoid and jump it in order to send the current to the starter.

THEREIN lies your problem. Solinoids' bad. Otherwise you shouldn't have to jump it. Ford is NOTORIOUS for this. Tell him to carry a spare. Personal experience says they like to go out at around midnight.

:peace:
