Ford Explorer Sport Tracs

Im looking ahead to life after the XJ and these seemed like an interesting vehicle. I believe they have the 8.8 rear end, spring under?, What do you guys think about them? Im really not interested in hearing about the "don't buy Ford, get ____", and I know its definetly not anywhere near as capable as the XJ and im not looking for it to be, just looking for a new 'truck'. I don't haul much, but having the bed is always a plus. Im interested in getting the 4wd model and if anyone has any input, id appreciate it. thanks

mother in law has one for horse shoeing, and she likes it. Rides ok, decent acceleration. Basically a 4 door Ranger so why didn't they call it that?

Seriously, my mother has one and has had great luck with it. It has some pretty neat features.

The only time I won't have an XJ is when I'm dead, but I like the rear window in the sport tracs. Always like rear windows that go down.

Well, let me rephrase it, life after the XJ becomes a non DD. Glad to hear everyones had pretty good luck with them. Do any of them come with V8s? I guess since you said a 4dr ranger, that means only v6. Thanks and anymore feedback is welcome.

They only come with the 6 (almost positive). I've driven 2 different ones and they ride nice, but the cab does seem a little tight, but that may just be me. They have good acceleration, but the backend seems a little light (throw some sand bags in there for winter). I for one like the back window as well. Seems like a good Truck/SUV to own.

Well, I'm about 6'5" and im 18 lol, but Im graduating early and getting a full time job, and once the XJ is paid off, I'm looking at getting another vehicle. Im not getting one right away but Im trying to narrow down a search to vehicles I like. Thanks everyone

My father (who owns 1 ranger, and 2 ex's) and I wheeled with them in moab....there is a lot of insight on there forum, almost as good as ....
actually i believe it is bigger then , but anywho..seems like the biggest trouble is the transmissions in those...lift kits aren't the easiest to come...( I work in a 4wd shop) but other then that...pretty nice...good luck

nice flex in the first one Actually prolly better than mine though...and since its basically an Explorer I'd imagine that the lifts for them will work. I know I said before 4 dr Ranger, but I meant the concept of it...4 dr compact pickup...

they do come in the 5.0 version, and thats what you'll want. The V-6 verison has 28 spline axles in them as opposed to the v8 rear end with 31 spline.
