I put just the axles on the other day, before the housing was painted, I had the perches in place and the u-bolts snug but not tight, threw on the tires and wheels. Lowered it down on the ground. I actually rolled it in and out of the shop a few times because I needed the hoist. Then I used a floor jack to set the pinion angle where I wanted it, and then tacked on the perches.
Then it all came back apart and I finished welding the perches, IIRC that was before I finished welding the truss all the way on too.
The shock brackets have been installed now and all the brakes are done. I just ground a little paint off once I figured out where I wanted the shock brackets.
