I have a '99 motor (Auto) long block sitting in my garage on an engine stand that I have decided to sell. I was planning on putting it in my '92 XJ but have since bought an '04 LJ, so I'm abandoning my project. The only work I've done is I've repainted it and I drilled a pilot hole in the head to tap for the Temp sensor for my '92. Any questions just ask!!!!! I'm looking to get $700 for it. Thanx for looking, J

Hello there,
My 96' XJ has just hit over 195,000 and the engine is finally going out the manafolds are leaking and well i need a new engine now. How would yours work for my 96'? Im trying to think if i need the hole for sensor or not but anyway let me know cuz im sure you know more than i do. Id love to get hold of it im kinda in bind trying to build mine haha.

Thanks, Chad

Well, I bought this for my '92 that had 247K just never got around to doing the swap and have recently bought a Wrangler LJ. This Engine has 38K. As far as working for your '96, From what I have researched '91-'96 are all similar so if it would work for mine it should for yours. However, in the '97+ engines the temp sensor is in the computer as opposed to our years. In ours, the temp sensor is located on the driver's side rear corner of the head. Look on yours to see if the sensor is there, it should be there with a wire coming off of it. Let me know if you have any other questions. J

FYI, a '96 XJ had an OBDII engine, so it should be pretty much identical to a '99. Temp sensor is located on the thermostat housing.
