fog lights to factory switch

ok so there is a pig tail behind the switch panel. plugged into the blank spot. i got the three switch panel and plugged it in. the switch lights up when the lights are on.

ok so i determined the pink wire is the dash lights. which leaves a black a blue and a purple. is black a ground? does anyone know which wires are the actually switched wires?

also just to make sure i wired them right i have 2 power wires from the 2 fogs run to a relay i have a supply wire from the batt to the relay. so the other 2 pins control the solenoid to switch the relay. so i need to take power to the switch and from the switch to the solenoid then the other pin would be ground right?

Sounds about right. But if you want to know for sure what those blue and purple wires are for exactly, look at the back of a Haynes manual where the wiring schematics and have a look. I'm not exactly sure what the factory wires are for.

If you go on Ebay you can probably find a factory service manual for your year in a .PDF file. I downloaded mine for $5. Some of the best $ I ever spent.
Sounds like you have the relay basics about right.

Why dont you just find the stock relay under the hood and hook the power wire to the new fogs or the solenoid/relay you want to use for the power for them. Thats what I did. The stock relay was right by my stock air box. I just added a bigger power wire to the relay then ran new wires to the fog lights I'm running.

seriously is it that easy. i was under the impression the kit to install the factory lights included a harness and some other junk to get it running. is it completely wired to the fuse block? and the only bits missing is the run from the power block to the fog lamps and a relay

man that would be so much easier. i did find a schematic and it showed the relay is ahead of the switch.

pink is dimmer
violet is power from relay tripped when low beams are on
lt Blue is to fog lamps
Black is ground

i cut purple and blue ran wire into the cab to the switch.

when i powered the violet wire the green on light lit up and stayed on no matter the switch position. so i ended up running power to my relay and then to the blue pin on the switch and it works. but the on indicator led is on but super dim. any ideas?

Purple should be the power coming from headlight switch. Black is ground and blue is the power from switch to lights. My jeep came with fogs and I used factory fog light wiring to run my Hellas. No drilling or wiring new switch. All on factory fog light switch. You might even have the fog wires up front if you dig around. Working in a body shop you'd be surprised how many cars I see that are completely wired for fogs but don't have lights or switch

I did the same thing splicing in a constant power to the purple wire on the switch. That way I can use my LED rock lights in camp without turning the jeep or lights on. Works great.

what year XJ? I assume there was no factory fogs? I've tried to do it on my 98 and it's been hell. I wanted to do it all factory but the wires going into the PDC and the relay inside it are missing. No relay inside it either. The only thing I can figure is that the engine bay wire harness is missing the fog light wires altogether, while the cabin wire harness still have them wether your jeep is equipped with fogs or not. You can trace the wires all the way to the firewall if you like, but it'll just be easier to just splice a new relay into the pigtail on the switch panel. You've got the ground covered you'll just have to splice into the blue and purple wires.

yeah there was no wiring for fogs under the front of the jeep

when i gave purple power the green light comes on no matter the switch position.

thats what i originally thought. im going to try and rig it up that way. if multiple people are getting the same results im not sure why mine would be different. im going to mess with it tonight and see if i can have it wired like that

plus i found these so i am going to set up a new accessories fuse/relay block

i hate wiring mess under the hood.

It's really pretty easy to wire up. My junk didn't have the wiring up front, or for the relay socket in the PDC, so I had to go that route. Buy a bunch of black zipties and some plastic split loom, and have at it.
