I jsut bought a 2 1/2 ton floor jack and today i lifted my xj up about 6 inches off the ground with it, then i went to lower my xj back to the ground and the way that you lower the jack is by turning the long handle counter-clockwise. So i do this slowly and all of a sudden my xj just drops to the ground. Is it normal for a jack just to drop like that... instead of slowly lowering the jeep?? Thanks. -Austin

Some models don't like to be stored in any position but the wheels on the ground, air pockets form. Try having a buddy stand on it, raise and lower it half a dozen times. It's called exercising it and is pretty much the first thing to check.

sometimes they are VERY touchy try barely turning it , ive had some where you have to twist it only like a 16th of an inch or it would drop to quickly. if that dont work maybe what 8mud said will.

he lifted his xj 6", sounds like modified to me.

i got a new floor jack same weight
its a central hydraulics dont know if that matters but for a bout a week or so it was sticking really bad and when i would try to lower it it would just snap then it my xj would just drop on the stands but one day it got really stuck s i had my buddy twist it with me as hard as i could and ever since then it lets down as slow as i want it to so maby it had to break in or something but i know what you are talking about. it sucks cause it makes you just cringe when your frame just drops down on the stands.
