Floor Finish Ideas

I just ripped the carpet out of my XJ due to cancer and am trying to put ideas together for new flooring. It has to be water proof. I would like it to be soft because I sleep in it sometimes. Very durable! And stain proof.

This of course would be the ideal situation but I am open to other suggestions.

um.. plastic rug stuff they put on balconies and outdoors ?
get a replacement carpet and use that ..

mark :)

Clean and prep real good then herc it and get a roll of eggshell padding and keep it rolled up then just unroll when needed.

Yeah i have to vote for the bed-liner, install some drain plugs so its easy to wash, and have a removable pad for the rear when you want to sleep in it.

Heck with the carpet, herculiner and get a cushion or blow up mattress to sleep on.

Alot of people say they have heat problems but when I had my 92 herc'd I could put my hand directly on the tranny tunnel after 1.5 hours of driving and would barely feel warm. There will be fumes for about a week for full curing so leaving the windows down as much as possible is best.

I have an auto and my tranny tunnel gets noticeably hot after a bit of driving, especially in the summer. It got uncomfortable in bare feet in the later summer months after a long drive.

I plan on fixing My MJ's floor by welding in new panels, POR-15ing the floor, then getting a new molded carpet and putting some extra heat/sound insulation under it. Granted, I am pretty much set on that truck becoming a plush daily driver.

What about it trapping heat in from the sun on a hot day? I have my windows tinted fairly dark but it still gets pretty warm in there and im wondering if making the floor black will make it worse? Any insight on that?

herculiner is rough.. you can use cheapo floor mats or Husky floor mats..
I like my carpet. though very dirty and soiled.. it keeps out the noise from the weathered XJ..
i ve seen some jy's with some clean looking carpets.. if i were to go that route.. or buy some new carpeting..
depends how "rough: you wanna go?

I had Herculiner in my old Jeep and it sucked. The roll on stuff doesnt hold up as good. I used in this Jeep U-POL Raptor Liner. It is a spray on bed liner just like Rhino or Line-X. I have had great luck with it. You can get the kit for $100 you get 4 bottles of liner (which I used 1 1/2 bottles depending on how thick you want it), the hardener, and a spray gun for your compressor. I ended up using it inside and doing my rocker panels and rear quarter with it. I would recommend to anyone.

I was looking at that stuff as I need to do my MJ bed and rails before I finish fit the slim fit cover I made for it. I have been looking at line-x instead though since I do not really have a place to spray it. $427 bucks is pricey though.

It looks good and I like the price.

I was planning on a 4 part coating myself! I really don't want a bunch of heat or road noise in my XJ and I'm not putting the carpet or that awful vinyl back in or most of the panels so this is the plan to keep it cool and quiet as I can. I've used the Cascade products before in car audio installs and big block Mopars to keep from cooking on the headers. There have been some good write-up's on Monstaliner on jeepform and a bunch of other forums so I'm going to give it a try. The CHASSIS SAVER stuff I came across while looking for something other than POR15 for my trailer project so its 1st use will be there and I'll see how that goes.

In case Tim is looking this is the stuff I was talking about @ your place :wave1:

1) CHASSIS SAVER (for the rusty bits up front )
2) Cascade TG-1 (Thermaguard Heat Shield Compound)
3) Cascade VB-1X (Sprayable Damping Compound)
4) Monstaliner (roll on bed liner)
