Im trying to find a job because i am sick of borrowing money from my parents, and I'm wanting to add a few more things to the jeep. I've looked around on the internet and news paper for job listings, but I havent found anything yet that can work with my schedule because I'm still in high school. I was just wondering what yalls first jobs were and how you found them.

Around here you can get a job delivering papers. Surprisingly enough it pays pretty good. All three of my kids did it one time or another. Heck, they averaged probably $15 an hour because they hustled. It means getting up at 4am.

Ok check this out...
When i was 16, my first job was at McDonalds. Yea it would seem like it would suck hardcore, but really , it doesnt. You get paid minimum wage ( 7.60 in CT) to do easy easy easy work.

McDonalds knows almost all of its employees are still in high school so they will cater to your schedule and give you the days and hours you want.

They have alot of good things for young people, like if you were falling behind in school, they would pay you to come in on your off days and study for 2 hours.

They give you free meals when you work and discounted food when you arent working. You will probably make new friends, and when you do decide to leave McDonalds, you will still know everyone there, and when you go in for food, they will hook you up.

Only bad part is you have to wear a lame uniform, but it teaches you be professional and dress up for work.

You will learn responsibility, time and money management. Its not all that bad.

I actually loved working there, minus the fact that the managers were asses.

Seems I'm an employment counselor....I think that I might be able to help you here.

As for you question, what was my first job and how did I get it. We'll, it was in fast food, and I walked in and filled out the application, had the interview and was hired.

With this being your first job, you need to not be picky. I know that everyone wants to walk into their dream job, making loads of money, but kiddo, I'm here to tell ya, it's not going to happen.

There is nothing wrong with flipping burgers. No, it's not ANYONES dream job. I've never heard anyone say, yes, my dream is to flip burgers the rest of my life. But we all have to start somewhere. You're only stuck there if you choose to be stuck there. There's nothing wrong with applying for other jobs while you're employed. It doesn't look bad on you or your employer because employers know that our goal in life is to make ourselves better.

Another thing to remember, is that it's easier to get a job if you have a job. If you have a job, this shows that you are employable. If you are out there job searching and you don't have a job, we'll, no one else wanted you, so why do I? What do you have to offer me and my company?

Hope this helps, and if not, that's OK too.

My first job was lugging around golf clubs for rich old men. I was in the 6th grade and rode my BMX bike the 8ish miles to the CC after school a few times during the week and every Sat and Sun. I could get 20 bones for 18 holes. ~60 bones a week for that age was good loot.

At your age I was working as a busboy at a local bar and grill about 30 hours a week. Good money and "benefits".

I worked at an amusement park, it was some fun times and you get to meet tons of chicks.

My first job was actually working in a hottub factory, definitely not typical, but it worked out good for me at 16

i refused to do food, either grocery stores or fast food like all the other people my age, and found a job i actually liked, worked with them throughout the rest of highschool and on breaks for the first few years of college

First job was mowing lawns for a guy who had contracts with apartments and hotels when I was 14. I was so small the stupid mower pulled me wherever they wanted and I ran over a lot of sprinklers, manholes and anything else in the way of wherever the mower was pointed.

In high school I worked at a baseball card shop (it was my dad's shop, I hated every second of it) and later as a dishwasher-then-busboy-then-cook at a mexican restaurant. Whatever it took to pay the car insurance...very pricey for a kid.

I never held a job in high school. My job was to get good grades and graduate. I have alot of respect for the kids that did both, but at that age, I don't think it should be required of you. Alot of the parents that preach that the reasoning is to teach their kids some responsibility, say that its to prepare their kids for the real world. But I got all the responsibility I could handle in College.

As far as the job goes. I worked quite a few over the summers, but never anything during the year. And the money I made over the summer was so that I didn't have to ask my parents for any all year................

My very first job was workin on a local farm mucking horse horse stalls and painting fences. Besides the smell, it wasnt too bad because I got to be outside all day. Then in high school i worked at the local gym as a fitness attendant. Had a lot of fun there just showing people how to use stuff and folding towels (and plenty of hunnies lol). I'd find a job where you can get to know a lot of people and get some good connections. At the gym i met a lady who got me a job as an intern at a local engineering firm.

X2. McDonalds was my first real job. Before then I was working for my step-father as a construction laborer and the pay was better than McD's. But Mc'D was cake and I made lots of friends.

Get into a trade and use the work release program at your high school. I did not want to flip burgers either so I didn't. Started as an electrician as a senior in high school. Good pay to start out and well on your way to a good career while still in school.

I started mowing neighbor's lawns in the 6th grade and at the age of 16 I had my own little business going with 16 lawns I took care of. I not only think it was a decent job being able to work outside, but it also taught me people skills and business skills (getting them all done in a timely manner and keeping books); not to mention that mowing lawns can bring in some killer $$. But then again, it is January and you are needing something now...

Check out a Janitorial positions. There's sure to be a daycare, nursing home, etc that needs someone to push a mop...

First job - Pizza Hut. Got hired when I was 16 for $5.15/hr and worked my way up to $5.90 before I quit. Drove mom's Jeep untill I could get enough saved up to make the payments on one of my own. Spent all day going around to every where I could think of putting in applications....they were last on my list (not intentionally, it happened to be that I got to that side of town last). The place was about a 20 minute drive from my house, or 10 miles or so....not too bad.

Started off as mainly a cut person, which is a tuff damn job let me tell you. I'm all about getting the job done in the best way possible, and i'm not one to complain about my job, but dayum this part sucked. We were in an old building (has been there since before I was born, and i'm almost 19 now).

Then moved to being a waitor. BEST part of working there. I could walk out of there with $50 a night EASILY, and I worked about 3-4 hours or so after school each day. Made for less in the pay check, but couldn't beat the cash on hand.

I then made the biggest mistake of my time there, agreeing to be a delievery boy. Not only was it illegal for a 16 year old, but I didn't have the proper insurance on my Jeep (refused to use mom's Jeep to deliver) incase something happened. I did it as a one time thing (or so I thought) for my boss, as up untill then, he was a real cool guy and really worked hard to get me the time off when I needed it, and he was in a tight spot (had to fire a driver). I got $1.25 a run + any tips, in addition to my normal pay. This became a regular thing, and I had no other job to go to at the time so I just had to suck it up untill I could find something better. The funny thing about the delievery world is it all depends on the clientel as to what your tips are going to be. I had a few good customers who knew the situation I was in and I always made a point to grab their orders and run them when I could. Then there are the bad ones....the ones who you KNOW have the money and can afford a $2-3 tip (you'd be surprised how far you can stretch that). Finally put my foot down and said enough is enough, when gas hit $3+ a gallon and I was averaging 100-120 miles a night in my XJ...all city.

Eventually moved to a company called Backyard Burgers, which was right down the street from my house (about 2 miles) and making more an hour (6.25). Actually got the hook up through a guy I worked with and became good friends with at Pizza Hut....Shift manager of BYB moved nextdoor to him and I got him to pass my name along. Went in, talked to the guy, had a job in 3 minutes flat. Put in my two weeks notice to Pizza Hell (I mean hut) the next day.

Loved working at BYB untill I went back this December to work 3 weeks over my xmas break and realized everything has changed....upper management is forcing my bosses to do crap that I know, and they know they don't want to do, but don't have a choice, and I didn't like it. I'll not be going back there.

I did like the atmosphere at BYB better. Hell, the manager who hired me is big into Jeeps and I ended up doing some side work on his XJ for him to help him out (recently became a father). The people I worked with there had a much better outlook on life, and I had many a good laugh and joke there.

Bottom line, where ever you end up, for the first couple of months your there, keep your trap shut and learn all you can. The ones who come in runnin their mouth from the start aint gonna make it long at all...trust me. I've learned so much about working in general (even though it was just HS jobs), but I have learned alot that I can take with me everywhere I go. I also made alot of friends in the process. I also learned how to make the money I earned stretch the furthest. It wasn't easy making the payment on my Jeep based on $5.90 an hour...especially when I was a driver. But I got by, and without the help from my mom (although she did buy me a tank of gas every now and then cause she's just that cool).

Plus like someone already said....make good friends and they'll get you the free food when you go back to visit. And it's always fun to talk with your old friends after not seeing them for a couple of months.

Also, if you really wanna show your mom that your a responsible kid (which it sounds like you are), once you get some money saved up, pay your mom back for some it. She'll probably refuse, but if you insist, it'll prove to her that you got your head on right.

It's gonna be hard for you to get a job as many places don't want to hire kids with out any work experience. But at the same time, you can't get any experience to put down on paper, unless somebody hires you. It's not fair I know, but thats just how it works. Once you get your first job, it's alot easier.

De-Tasseling corn for Blaney Seed company
Wonderful job, awsome pay, outstanding bennifits.

OK, I was kidding about all the good aspects of the job, but when I was 14, it was an awsome job :D

Dang, when I look back $2.75/hr and working (5) 15 hour days seems like slavery now. Now migrant workers do it and get paid a dollar or two more than I did. <rolled eyes>

When I was 16, I got a Co-Op job at a local TV shop through a school work/credit program.

my first job- Papa Murphy's Pizza.. minimum wage (6.75/hr) but hey it was money and at 20hrs a week its not alot of work but a solid $500 a month job..

Now- Old Navy running shippment in the morn unloading trucks. I love it cuz its super early and once you get used to the time (norm a 5am start) your out of there at noonish and have the rest of the day to spend doing whatever.. oh and its starting pay is 8.50/hr.. still not great but better than min wage.. just start at the bottom and work your way up

Getting a job a car parts store seemed like a good idea to me, so I submitted an application to Monument Auto Parts and got hired(was actually my first day today). The guys i work with know alot about cars so i will be learn alot aswell. The atmosphere there also seems chill, alot better than my last job at round table. It pays 8.50 plus i'm will be able to buy parts at wholesale cost.
