Firepower Ignition Kit

I bought a FIK from performance distributors. My engine was misfiring so I figured it was time for a tuneup and upgrade. After reading numerous posts I was able to come to the folllowing conclusions:

Don't need a new coil to get more performance from a jeep 4.0L it is already well designed, bigger wires are better, brass terminal distributor cap is good.

I opted to by the parts direct from Performance Distributors website vs. quadratec, same price but could elect to get all but the coil. Shipping time was slow but otherwise good. I got a distributor, 2 different rotors, and the livewires. Wires are labeled and numbered on both ends, 10mm. Had to remove the stock wire routing holder because it only fit 7mm wires and was in my way. Put Bosch platinums 4s in for sparkplugs. All in all it was a very easy install and so far I am happy with it. Also didn't think a new coil was worth it at this time cause I didn't want to mess with different spark gaps (can't change on my plugs) and octanes and stuff.

I think it is too early to tell the gains, I think I am getting 1-2 MPG better but my driving style has been inconsistent, short trips long trips etc. Plus I was misfireing for about 2 weeks when I started paying attention to MPG. I'll know more when I try and tow my boat.

Hope this helps anyone thinking about getting the same kit. Also, if you get the full kit you may need a wire harness adapter depending on year model, I didn't see it advertised at quadratec only at perf dist.

Sounds good. Let us know if you notice any power differences, especially when you tow. That might be an upgrade I'd concider if it helps with towing power.

Mine sparked knocked with stock stuff and 89 gas, installed the firepower kit, .060 gap and no knock on any gas I have ran.

What kind of distributor did you get?

Just a new cap and rotor. It looks like a direct replacement for OEM except brass terminals and it is bright red. Otherwise real easy swap. Took off my OEM cap wires and rotor. Replaced the plugs first, for beter clearance for the torque socket wrench. Then put on the new rotor and cap and hooked up the wires. Easily getting 2MPG beter from last weeks driving. Didn't open up plug gaps as I am still running stock coil and 87 Octane.

Also like to announce that I am now the proud father of a baby boy and probably won't be towing my boat anytime in the next week. Mostly because I'm too tired to drive or think.

First of all congrats on your boy! Hope he's healthy as can be.

Do you know what the resistance of the livewires are? I'm just wondering cause I've got MSD's superconductor wires and the readings I get from my ohmmeter are less than 50 ohms/foot as they advertise.

Firepower = CRAP....

Had mine less than 6 months, and the damn wires are aching between one another, and other metal items in their general location....

Paid way too much, for a 4 - 5 month lifespan...

Did you get the whole kit with the cap, rotor, wires, coil? Or just the coil?
