I bought a FIK from performance distributors. My engine was misfiring so I figured it was time for a tuneup and upgrade. After reading numerous posts I was able to come to the folllowing conclusions:
Don't need a new coil to get more performance from a jeep 4.0L it is already well designed, bigger wires are better, brass terminal distributor cap is good.
I opted to by the parts direct from Performance Distributors website vs. quadratec, same price but could elect to get all but the coil. Shipping time was slow but otherwise good. I got a distributor, 2 different rotors, and the livewires. Wires are labeled and numbered on both ends, 10mm. Had to remove the stock wire routing holder because it only fit 7mm wires and was in my way. Put Bosch platinums 4s in for sparkplugs. All in all it was a very easy install and so far I am happy with it. Also didn't think a new coil was worth it at this time cause I didn't want to mess with different spark gaps (can't change on my plugs) and octanes and stuff.
I think it is too early to tell the gains, I think I am getting 1-2 MPG better but my driving style has been inconsistent, short trips long trips etc. Plus I was misfireing for about 2 weeks when I started paying attention to MPG. I'll know more when I try and tow my boat.
Hope this helps anyone thinking about getting the same kit. Also, if you get the full kit you may need a wire harness adapter depending on year model, I didn't see it advertised at quadratec only at perf dist.
