I chose my words carefully so as not to actually call him a troll. I remarked that his posts were starting to look troll like. If he had offered some information about testing that shows the alleged weakness of this cage it would not have looked troll like at all. I stand by my assertion that his post looked like something a troll would post.
 
Some people are acting like some kind of effing prima donnas on here. If you have some helpful information to post then by all means, educate us but don't show your ass by making someone look like an idiot for putting a part of their rig that in your opinion is not worth installing. This community is usually good about guiding and teaching others about what works and what doesn't on these vehicles. When people start bashing others about their choices it turns new members off to this forum. If you have some helpful factual information to offer then by all means post up. If all you can do is bash people without offering any info to back your assertions then STFU!

Re-read the thread then. There are details as to the flaws and what needs to be done.
 
It's times like this that I'm proud to be a NAXJA member...:rolleyes: I know we've lost some long time members in the past over this kind of crap.

I look forward to the day when I can spend a day working on the heep with my son. Is that cage powdercoated or did you spray paint that?
 
Cage looks great Dean!!

Rock Hard has sold several cagesw to the military, and have pictures to prove that it provides great additional safety. Yes, it could use some triangulation, but I would hardly deem in unsafe.

As for the floor, I would agree it is a good idea to tie it into the unibody for extra support. That is easy to do, use the plates that mount on the underbody, and run a tube to the unibody (best if you have unibody plated for this)

Well said.Sometimes I fell like I get bagged on myself.I thought this was a place for people to talk and learn from each other.Am I wrong?IEverything I have done to my xj I included my 8 year old Son to spend time and teach him things.If nothing else atleast you spent that time with him.
 
wrangler's have 'roll bars' designed for college, not 'roll cages' designed for rock crawling.

quit bringing the kid into this unless he designed the cage, nobody is ragging on nobody for enjoying an afternoon with their kid, if anything the presence of kids requires MORE safety.
 
I understand the diffrence but they are bolt on and not welded.This whole topic is stupid.All people had to do is go about the whole thing in another way.Instead of saying that cage sucks and I wouldnt take a free one someone could have offered to help him beef it up if need be.Arent we all here to help each other and offer our opinions from previous experiance?

weather or not i'd take a free one is an irrelevant hypothetical. i would for sure take one, and then sell it to someone who doesnt value his own life much more than about $500 (im guessing thats about the price)

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, its ok for a cage to be bolted onto a pedastool mount (or around a frame), its not ok for a cage to be bolted together....
 
half of you guys and your triangulation are retarded. one minute youre saying oh yeah that needs some x braces then you say oh your head will hit it in a roll over. as long as the cage is made with the right thickness tubing and welded correctly it will hold up. i would put some plating in to make the mounting points a little stronger but there is no reason to put a jungle gym in your jeep. i have rolled 3 hi jumper sand cars with a 6 point top with 1.5 .120 wall tubing and they didnt even budge at all. and the fact that it is a mall crawler does have validation here. no bodys going to go XXXX up their street car in the rocks when they have a rig specifically for that purpose. most M.C.'s dont even have cages.

I am not trying to say you do not need triangulation in a cage, I agree it is needed. I also agree that I would rather have no cage than a poorly built (that is not directed towards your cage Dean) cage that will break and hit me in the head. That link is to provide proof instead of judgment.

How about to make things more interesting we start a debate about pipe vs tube?

i think what bails is TRYING to say is, more triangulation = more head hazards. which is correct, and why you need 5-point harness's with a cage. .. something i dont have and therefore cant flame for!

but bails, please stfu, tubing thickness, and joint construction are only 2/3rds of the picture. in your retarded world a square box made of 2" .120wall chromo, tigged to oblivion would win the baja 1k.... please, stop talking.

Everyone has their own opinions. But your cage looks good to me. I've had mine for over 2 years and I trust it. There are a few addl/optional extra pieces that I've incorporated just based on my wheeling habits, including a lateral bar directly behind the driver/pass seats that tie the B-pilar area and works as a seat harness mount. The unibody will definitely and noticeably feel stiffer. I'm sure you've already noticed.

And at 5'11". I don't bang my head on any of the bars nor does my cage vibrate at freeway speeds. It's solid, although I hope never to have to use it. Enjoy your cage.

BTW. I wrapped the passenger compartment areas of potential head trauma, in the unlikely event of a flop/overturn, with pipe insulation. home depot/lowes and cheap.
