ok, im in the process of cutting my front fenders out, and i have a question...what do u do with all the open space between the fender and the engine compartment down into the door area. seems like an awful lot of mud etc will just collect in there and rust it out.

also, how can i incorporate the old flares into the new cutouts? has anyone done this??? i dont want to have to purchase new flares but once the opening is cut, i dont know if they will fit back on. pics would be great if u got them

and finally, how can i keep the newly cut edge from rusting out on me? i live in ME and winters can be hell on sheetmetal. do i put a rubber edge on them? do i bend them under? rubberizer? idk

thanks

1. Use rubber and make a curtain
or, wash it out once in a while

2. With a little enginuity the flares can be cut down at the point that meets the fender as there's about a half inch edge that can be cut off. This'll get the flare to fit up higher on the fender after the big chop.

3. Prep and spray bomb. Rustoleum works well. Or rubberized undercoating.

I took the lining that was inside the fender and rotated it and cut so that the part that was top before is now in the hole leading towards the door.

i used 3m rubberized undercoating on mine. only been on for about 5 months but seems to be holding up hell, no chips or nothing. plan on using it on my rear hack job as well...
