Johnnie -many months later but RIGHT you were - ended up being the ground cable became detached from the firewall ground lug!!

funny - I was just sort of getting used to the crazy symptoms and then whlie on a trip heard a weird noise from under the front - got out and checked - and my 1/0 welding cable i used for a ground was dragging, frayed as heck on the pavement...

Ca spec cats don't run any cleaner, they just have to be of a heavier construction and be able to last a minimum of, IIRC, 5 yrs(?).......Autozone sells them

Most of the time it's not even that. They are the same exact part that you can buy in any other state, just a different part number.
