I bought a Magnaflow Highflow cat and muffler and have it dumped in front of the rear axle, not overly loud just cruising around, and sounds nice when you put your foot in it. I had someone pull up next to me at a stop light asking if I had a V8 under the hood because of the way it sounded. Spent less than 170.

He's an idiot! Exhaust alone does not make ANY engine sound like a V8...only a V8 will sound like a V8

Tell me about it. Thrush welded with pre-axle dump. The Auto zone worker asked me if I had a 6bt in it.... Yes, the man who sells you parts asked if i had shoehorned a 1k lb diesel engine into my jeep.

If you dont want too loud, look at the Flowmaster 50 series, its ALMOST stock sounding at idle, but gives a nice growl under load. I love mine!

I believe it does fit. There are a couple of threads where the differences between the two Dynomax catbacks are laid out if you search a bit, but I don't recall there being a significant difference. Maybe a different hanger or adapter, if that.

I've searched and I just can't find the answer...can anybody help? I like the dynomax kit because it comes with all hangers and everything is 100% bolt up, but I do not want the chrome tip and the angled tailpipe that interferes with extended shackles.

Go to Dynomax's site, and look at the install guides under tech support. The two kit numbers are 17340 and 17463. They list all the part numbers, and you can look up all the parts for the specifics.

Short version:
Later model kit has 2.25" pipe & muffler outlet, stainless tip, 2-bolt flange for late year 00/01 connection to the cat, and different rear hanger.

Early kit has 2.5" pipe & muffler outlet, no fancy tip, 2.25-2.5" adapter to connect muffler to cat, and different rear hanger.

I have a Flowtech Raptor under mine. Paid $25 for it at advance auto. Welded it up myself. Has a good tone, but with doors off and driving on the beach it can get a little loud. Everywhere else, I can turn the music up loud enough to drown most of it out. When picking exhaust, be sure to think about what and where you will be spending most of your time driving. Believe me, you dont want loud exhaust if you'll be driving on interstates for any length of time. Flowmaster 40 Series is always a good route. Spend some time on youtube listening to exhaust clips. Just search "Jeep 4.0 Exhaust".

I installed a Magnaflow Cat and a Hearthrob 2.5" Cat back along with a short tube header. Not too loud and helped the flow. Added a CAI and overall gained 3mpg on the highway and 2mpg in town.

Bought the parts from JC Witney (be kind, the parts are the same no matter where you get them) as they had the best prices at the time (last June). It ran $200 (best price I could find here) to get the Cat and the Cat back installed at a shop. The header my Son put in for me. After all, what good is a College kid if you can't get some free labor out of him...
