exhaust question

so i am having a tough time routing the exhaust below the floor, above the belly pan, & around all the link bars. (3 link front, 4 link rear, ori struts set with 5" up & 9" down travel, full hydro on tons & 42's)

any reason not to run the exhaust out the front of the rig?
this rig is trail only.

i am thinking of using a supertrapp type disc muffler perhaps pointed down or straight ahead.

let the comments fly...:passgas:

Out the front, or even a turn down, would drive me mad on the trail.
It appears you have more than me when I did mine.
A little floor massaging above the crossmembers, some bends, and you can make it work out the back. I used a Spintech muffler as that was the thinnest I could find and put it above my rear links. The case size is only 2 ¼” X 9” X 16”. Works great and sounds pretty good. Put in a flex coupler before the first crossmember and hard mount the rest all the way back. The rear hanger you see is really part of two clamps, one upside down, and then two pieces of threaded rod. Simple, cheap, and effective.

Just got this in a PM but I figured I'd answer it here as well since someone else is likely to have the same questions.

how long is your flex?
is it a braided type?
so with the flex you can hard mount the rest of the exhaust without causing noise or vibration issues?
that may solve my routing issues.
Just the standard typical 12" long stainless braided type from Summit Racing.
Yup, no noise, no vibrations, no ill effects I have noticed.
I'm definitely not the first to do this and it wasn't my idea but it does work very well.

You are going to hate a turndown or it running out the front if you EVER run dry or dusty trails. Believe me.

I don't have that setup, but I have a turndown under the bed of the MJ and if the trail is dusty, it is impossible to see behind me and the next jeep back is basically running blind. It's bad enough I've considered putting a full tailpipe back on, or removing the turndown.

X2 on the turn down, mine turns down before the rear axle and it blows dust and dirt everywhere when you give it throttle.

I see pretty of room!! My crossmembers are like yours too, tucked up flush with the bottom of the framerails. I notched out the tops of the crossmembers and filled them in with a piece of ~4" OD x 1/4" wall tubing, I gained another inch of area to work with. The exhaust is hard mounted and wrapped with heat wrap. I have ~1/2" above and below the pipe to the floor and crossmembers.

This would be a crazy idea but how about outside the frame/unibody rails. And have it all tucked up and 100% protected by your rockers. This way you can run it on the driver side and not have that dumb a** 90* turns in it. If you run it on the driver side you have better breathing exhaust.

If you have it come out the front you will be breathing exhaust fumes and start to get really dizy and may want to go even more crazier.

I would try to find a way to run it out the back.
I made a tunnel for mine and fit the cat in there...

... it's 2.5" all the way back. I then topped it off with a Dynomax bullit muffler(which is way too loud)...

add some high flow cats on the end of them and youre good

that must have the fabled Jeep 4.0L V6 engine... cool.

on topic, I will be fighting this battle in a few months once mine is ready for exhaust.

looks like flex line is the answer to the routing problem.
next issue will be stuffing a muffler back in place somewhere.
fun!

2.8L V6 is always possible-- it's got the 10 section grill like the early models, but it definitely looks like a 4 into 1 on each side.

I guess it could be a 3 into 4 into 1 (X2) exhaust,though...

ya, was meant as a joke... I'm sure you've seen kijiji/craigslist/etc ads saying this Jeep has a "4.0L V6" engine because for the most part people that don't know, assume.

what I really love seeing is listings saying it has a "4.0L inline V6 motor" :laugh2:

so close... and yet so far.
