Time for a little update.
A couple months back I stumbled upon a Craigslist deal and traded my stock seats that were in excelent condition for these:
I improved (strengthened) the way they had them mounted to the seat brackets and they fit okay in the jeep. I wasn't sure if I made a good trade or not because the foam padding inside is getting a little old and the seats aren't the most comfortable at first. But after using them on a few long trail rides, they tend to become less uncomfortable which is a good sign. I suppose I could say they are comfortable.
But that means I also decided to make some additions to the cage to accomodate harnesses which I still have yet to buy.
I built the cage around the stock seats and thankfully these racing seats fit with plenty of room, even more room than the stockers did. My one concern is having the seatbelt bar too high up, because I wanted to match it with the B-pillar braces I had both for strength as well as aesthetics. Ultimately it would have been better to build the cage around the seats I wanted to use - something like these as opposed to the stock seats, but I didn't have the money at the time to buy them.
So... the seatbelt bar might be a tad high but I think it will work okay.
Now all I need is to get some 5-point harnesses.

You say the seatbelt bar may be a tad high. Do you mean a tad low? I believe the current conventional wisdom is to have the harness bar about even with the shoulders. Is that no longer current?

No I was mistaken by something I read somewhere else. But you are correct and I think the placement will work fine because it is close to level with my shoulders or at most an inch below them.

Bestop part #51252 which are for '97+ Wrangler TJs. I bought them from Quadratec at $85 a pair.

Yep, he just about wrote the book on these Jeeps.
I really like that everything is aesthetically pleasing while 100% functional.
This theme is apparent in all of the projects documented about this Jeep!

Eric, how do you feel the doors handle chassis flex? not the doors themselves, but the body. Do you think they'll offer similar structural support as the stock doors?
