Engine Temp Questions

I have a 2000 XJ sport 4.0. I have a couple questions about how warm or cool the jeep temp should be operating at. Right now when I start my jeep and let it “warm up” for about 10min the temp gauge is around 100 degrees. I drove back form Cripple Creek and the engine temp was only like 2 ticks above the 100 degrees on the temp gauge and that was running over 2 hours steady. Even around town this jeep will not heat up On warmer days the engine temp is about 195/200 degrees. Does this happen to anyone else or does anyone know the cause or have any tips.

P.S The wife is getting pissed at me because the heat wont get warm when is runs so cold.

What thermostat do you have in it?

I think its stock.... But I'm not sure

Normal I-6 4.0L operating temperature is ~200-210* A 185* thermostat should be used.

sounds like thermostat is stuck open, and driving in cold weather will keep the water cool like that.

replace the thermostat and call us in the morning.

and stock is 195* for the 2000

Not trying to steal the thread here, but... I run 200 all the time pretty much regardless of the weather. It could be -5 or 50 and it pretty much stays steady at 200(ish). Am I in good shape?

Today with the drive being in -10*F I ran at a good 195*F it took driving for two miles in first gear to get it that warm. Never moved past that once I got out of residential and finished the trek to school. I usually always run at 205*F but this weather has been frigid, and having the heater on sucking in this cold air meant I got only warm air and a colder running engine.
