engine swap AMC 360 or chevy 350

Go to the website I posted, they are pre-built 4.6L long blocks. Exact same block just bored over n'such for the stroker, same stuff you'd have to get done if you did it your self. You can e-mail them and see what they can do to get it as close to what you want.

heres the link again

ive been there before and the largest they had was the 4.6L. i was looking around and i think i can piece together a 5.0 kit but my question is could i run on just premium gas or would i need a higher octane?
the compression ratio would be ~10.1:1- 11.1:1

I wasn't aware anyone's running a big block Chevy in their XJ? Maybe you mean a 'mouse' motor as small Chevys are typically known.
sorry i wouldnt know the diffrencs, im more into Elephants

that would not be streetable at all, how much power you lookin for?

in that case, your going to need to look into a new tranny and axles as-well

the 5.0 stroker kit gives an estimated total power of 325hp and 380lbft of torque and yes i plan on doing a tranny, Tcase, and axel swap as well from the DANA 35 to front and rear DANA 60's w/ 4w disc brakes and for the tranny and t-case im not sure i havent looked into it yet,all i know is that its ganna be replaced.

i just made my decision on not to swap for a 350. so deciding on a tranny and stuff hasnt come around yet.

The only problem is that Jakes Racing Engines went under so nobody sells offset-ground stroker cranks to achieve the 4.9L and 5.0L stroker displacements unless you get your crank custom ground at a crank specialist.
At the moment, the biggest displacement you can realistically get is 4.8L (+0.125" overbore, standard 258 crank) and even then, overboring the cylinders to 4.00" is risky.

ok well ive done more researching and ive decided to go with the .30" overbore because ive heard alot of good things about it. ganna go with a longblock too so i get the warrenty and maybe supercharge it, i dont know yet.

supercharging it might kill the engine's warranty, undue stress and all...oh, and you wouldn't need as much power as you're looking for to beat a stock 5.0 Mustang...my friend's 95 GT just barely pulls on me. Or at least he did back before the boost and 30s. But even now he doesn't get away as quickly as you'd expect.

Experienced crank shops (The Crank shop - Middleton, NY) can offset grind a 4.0 crank - mine cost $200 plus shipping.

Realistically, how much stroke/displacement can you get by offset grinding? Specifically, I'm thinking about for the 2.5L 4-cylinder, since Jeep doesn't have a handy variation to swap cranks out of for a budget 2.5L stroker.

its not in my plans to supercharge or even do turbo's they will make my engine run too hot, from what ive heard. but whats the biggest displacement i can get with only a .30" overbore?

i plan to get the extra power from these other modifications..
borla 2 1/2" header
dynomax 2 1/2' cat back exhaust w/ high flow muffler
cam (havent decided much on this mod yet)
high flow throttle body
62mm throttle body spacer
safari snorkle
and many other small add-ons

ive also just read about a DIRECT HITS spark plug system anybody used it before and have an opinion?

ok ive done my research and made a final decision on stroking my I6 4.0 to a 4.6L this is what ive read is the most common and reliable. but i havent decided to go with the long block or build it myself. i know building it myself would be cheaper but since i use my jeep as a daily driver i would like to go with the prebuilt long block from golen or something.i also like the idea of having a warrenty.

i expect to get 250hp at least and over 300ftlbs of torque, is that possible from just the 4.6L stroker? another thing is ive read from a previouse thread that the strokers seem to make a noise in the valvetrain when the engine gets hot. is there a way to fix that if i have that problem?
i'd also like to install roller rockers. can i buy a long block with them installed already or would i have to install them myslef?
thanx in advance

are you converting to a HO Head and Intake Manifold or are you leaving it Renix? If you are leaving it Renix your gonna have a tough time getting a 62mm TB on it. 59.5 is the largest I know about for direct bolt on. After that you'll be fabbing/modifying your own deal and adapting the TPS etc.

If your going the HO route and are prepared for roller rockers, etc, I would suggest looking into Hesco's aluminum replacement head. They have a larger lip already machined into the top to clear roller rockers, allow the lifters to be removed without removing the head, and I believe use larger valves for even better breathing characteristics than a stock HO head.

my bad -- I just checked Hesco's website and it looks like valve size is the same...I swear some one made or machined a head with larger valves....

For my stroker project I elected to stay with the renix head and a bored renix TB as I need to be able to easily get replacement parts if need be while on the road. It's nice to be able to still walk into a parts place and tell them I have '90 MJ and all the external stuff is bolt for bolt identical.

Good luck on your project!

i do plan to replace the head and the TB for other performance mods but im not sure who to go with i dont plan to stay with the renix but who makes the best parts? and as for the larger valves, that would be great! i'll look around but if you find it first send me a link please!.
thanx,

I think it may have been accurate power (who made the big valve head). He/They are out of business it seems.
