Your cherokee is a 2000 right? they have a problem as you have found. The dash on these XJ's are a plug in type, in other words, when you undo the screws you just pull the cluster and out comes the gauges. They have a set of contacts on each side of the cluster these contacts loosen up on certain XJ's. Jeep will tell you that you need a new cluster this is Bu## Sh%$. All you have to do is bend, gently, the contacts up a little to provide a better contact. I have done this on several XJ's. If you need help email me at [email protected]

Thanks Ted,
Being a complete novice I appreciate any and all info: Would this account for the increase in charge level on the battery? Joe
