Aight,

Ive got a lot of problems that need figured out. lol I dont know where to start. First off my jeep came with a different ignition. Its no londer on the Steering Column (its on the lower dash)....it was put together half a$$ed by the original owner. I want to get the ignition back to the steering column! I would like to get a new steering column. I also lost all my accesories when my jeep is running so i think that has something to do with the ignition switch. So What do i need to get? From Where? Wiring Diagrams? ( ill get pics later tonight of anything you need)

I picked up some herculiner to line the floor of the XJ. I serached around and found alot of stuff thats 50/50....Do i need to coat the floor with por-15 before Herc or what? Anyone around here do this to there jeep.

I also need to pick up a manual for the XJ. What does everyone like to have to look at? Haynes? etc?

Thanks to anyone for helping.

Hey There,

I have bed lined my XJ with a different product (water based Zion Trail Coating) than Herculiner, but know that for most of these products you are going to want to take care with the prep work because it is 90% of your total success. Most of the products call for a light sanding to remove the sheen or gloss off the old paint, and then application of a good primer (self-etching preferably). If you are going to spray on make sure to mask everything including the headliner off real good. Masking tape and newspaper works great! Also, if you have not done a removable door mod but plan to, now is the time, because it will be much easier bedlining without your OEM doors in the way, trust me! Messy job...but well worth it in my opinion! Hope all goes well! Good luck!

DanDan,

First, in order to help you, we need to know some specifics about your rig such as year, engine, trans and accessories. Ignition systems in the XJ's differed over the years - some had GM steering columns and others had Chrysler.

From the hip, I'd have to guess that the wiring under the dash is now a mess of spliced together stuff. Sounds like a real headache. To be perfectly honest, the XJ dash and wiring harness isn't that difficult to remove. My suggestion, if alot of the harness is butchered and if you want it put together right would be to find another similar year XJ with the same accessories, and snag the harness from it, then transfer it to your new rig. The majority of the harness simply separates at the firewall with two small bolts and the rest is just disconnecting and re-connecting everything. Removing the dash completely and installing the new harness to all the components first, then re-installing the dash may be the best way to do this. Tape the loose stuff up out of the way when the dash goes back in, and it should work out. Then connect the harness bulkhead and steering column connections and you're in business.

Junk yards usually have XJ's with alot of the dash pulled apart anyways, but do your best to make sure you find a solid harness that someone else didn't cut up to get at the part they wanted before you start pulling everything apart. Pull-n-Save is a good place usually.

Manual? I strongly recommend the Factory Service Manual (FSM) for your year. If it's within the last dozen years or so, you can get it in paper or CD format from www.techauthority.com, NAXJA classifieds or eBay. If it's not on the TA website, start searching eBay but buyer beware there...

Sweet Thanks Guys
