Electric remote control mirrors

Has anyone ever successfully disassembled the electric remote control mirrors on the pre-1997 XJ's to get to the internals? I would like to remove the internal parts from the housing in order to have the housing rechromed.
Any tips on disassemly/reassembly technique appreciated.

What is the cost to have them rechromed? You can get new ones on ebay for about $20 each. Just a thought. Unfortunately I am no help on the disassemble.

Quadratec also sells chromed electric mirrors, but they are a lot more than $20.

The mirror is glued in placed. You would have to remove this first to get at the internals.... Most likely would break while trying to pry it up.
