Electric Fan: Time Delay Relay Shutoff

good response. never thought of that. the stock e fan doesn't do squat by itself. Can't get too far from civilization where I'm at, unfortunately.

I just like the idea of having 2 fans instead of just one. Most of my wheeling is a long way from civilization and cell service so if my efan craps out it's going to be a looooong drive home, waiting for it to cool all the time.

I should add that the twin taurus fans are each smaller than a single. I found them while cruising the pick a part a while back and picked up 2 sets. So when I get them in I will have wider coverage across the rad, with less fan sticking out below the rad. It actually looks like they will fit in the XJ better than the single fan, now I just have to get around to doing it.

Hmm...are they still 2 speed high CFM fans? Sounds cool, what year taurus' are they found in and what motor?

I'll post up a for sure after checking them out closer later today but IIRC at least one of them had 3 wires going to it so I'm pretty sure it is 2 speed. I don't know what yr they came out of. I was just checking out the wrecked tuauri for a spare fan and came across some of them that had the duals so I grabbed a couple.

Thanks fuzzydog, that would be cool if you could find some of that info out.

Does anyone know if there would be enough flow with the thermostat closed for the coolant to circulate with an electric impeller pump like was mentioned? I would think there should be, as it should be a safety stat and we're not talking about cooling a running engine, just circulating hot coolant.

here are a couple of pics of the fans that I have. I can't recall why I didn't take the shroud with some of them, but it looks like the mountings are different. The ones with the shroud still attached are definitely both 2 speed fans and they move a lot of air (I just tried them out on a battery) Just look in the taurus section of the pick n pull and you'll find something that looks like these. I measured my single taurus fan and it is about 16-17 inches across and the large one of the twins is 14. I might have to do some hacking of the shroud down by the steering box, but it should be doable. I sure hope it is. worst case though, I'll take the 2 smaller ones, put them together in a custom shroud and make it work.

I wouldn't worry about that - if the engine is cool enough for the t-stat to close, your afterrun system shouldn't be running anyway.
