ebay snorkel??? whats your thoughts??

Hey what's up guys.... Im pretty new around here and I must say I love the board. Anyway I have a 89 xj and in the last year I have gone crazy and damn near broke trying to get her a very trail worthy rig. lol anyway I'm thinking I want a snorkel.... there is a lot of water were I wheel, and they just look bad ass IMO. What do you guys thing?

thats the link for the cheaper one.... it looks fine in the pic but I was wondering if anyone ever tryed one.... there is also a more expensive one made by ARB but were talking 216 bucks more.... whats your opinions??

judging by the price i would guess that it probably doesnt fit or mount quite as well as the the ARB one and the material is of a much lesser quality.

just for looks i'd say go for it, but i bet cracking would be a problem if you're rubbing it on trees or anything like that.

That doesn't come with the hose. I have had problems sourcing a replacement hose for my 8 year old snorkel. If anybody has a good source, I would appreciate the info.

Yeah it's deff not going to be just for looks, the look is just a added feature.... I'm lifted 4.5 but some of the water in the pines gets pretty deap. Expeacially after a storm... I just read the cheap ones description and it doesn't come with everything you need for install.... just the snorkel itself. Even says in the description its no where nears as good as the polyethylene ones

you can get hose at the 'make-your-own-ricer-intake' section of any major auto store.. just run the hose DPG-style instead of wrapping around the entire fender like ARB does.

I have that snorkel, I had to make my own install kit for it since the one that comes with it sucks. It came with a hose that didn't fit either. I'd pass on it and get a good branded one.

I'm not going to comment on the genious part, but to do what you are saying you would need to do htis.

The A-pillar really doesn't have enough space in it for making a snorkel. You would have to cut through the firewall in the engine compartment, into the cowl, do two 90* bends, then remove the entire dash to cut a hole from the cab into the cowl, route the hose to the roof, cut another hole into the roof, then trim the dash for that big hose. You would then need to seal up the roof and cowl area.

You would then have a big hose blocking some of your vision. Not to mention, I'm sure it would be somewhat loud.

Just save the money, and get an Airflow snorkel. It is a complete kit, don't have to buy anything else or think of how to make it work. And the main thing, it doesn't look hacked together.

Well I only paid $260 shipped for an Airflow (Christmas sale a few years ago).

And if you need a snorkel, how is paying the money for one "wasting" it?

I decided to pay money for a quality kit that has undergone real world testing (Airflow is from Australia where they need snorkels sometimes for daily driving), and I won't have to worry if it will leak, fit correctly, etc.

I also was more than happy to pay that little bit extra for a snorkel that was actually designed for my vehicle, and will contour to it, rather than look like a piece of pipe sticking out of the side of my fender. I personally just don't like that look.

To each his own, if you are happy with yours, then good.

mine is air tight and works great. and its "wasting" because you can build an air tight one for a hell of alot less. oh well. i keep my rig fuctional without worrying so much about looks.
