Eagle Lakes 09/18/2010

Plenty of camping spots, moderate wheeling. There is an OHV area, pretty boring, and the main Eagle Lakes trail is a 2 out of 5. I ran it solo on July 4th weekend, and met a friend at the end. Fordyce trail head is 1/2 way through EL, and signal peak is at the beginning. If you have someone with you that wants "bathrooms" near the camp site, there are good sites near the OHV park.

I know a few camping spots that are awesome for larger groups (5 or more vehicles) and have run that trail at least 20 times in the last 3 years.

humm, I was going to take the family up to Gold Lake but a shorter car ride would be great. I thought about Eagle Lakes but know nothing of the area.

If you don't mind pointing in the direction of some good camping near or along the lake and with at least pit toilets. Do I need reservations?

My be I'll see you up there.

Josh

no reservations, and the best way is to head towards Pierce OHV once you enter EL. You will come to a T in the road, turn left and pick a camp spot....there is a central pit toilet...and depending on the campsite, you will be right next to the "river"...the lake is at the back end, and there aren't any toilets back there.

The trail into the camp sites is fairly easy, but there are a couple of rock gardens to go through. I've seen stock trucks and cars down there, so its not bad.

X2 on Pierce OHV!! especially for kids. there are killer spots to camp and plenty of shallow areas for the little ones.. I was up there a couple of weeks ago with my older kids. They pretty much drove all the trails except the trail to Eagle Lakes/Fordyce.. What time you heading up? i may be able to sneak away since the wife is working..

Thanks for the info guys. I was planning on going to Gold Lake, I love it there, but was thinking this my be a better option with the little one. It would be nice to be a little closer to home and to have a shorter drive.

I would be going up Friday and coming home Sunday. I will let you guys know where I decide to go in the next few days.

Josh

I will post up if I can make it. I would only be there for the day as well. Did you ever post a pic of the family wagon? Any mods?

no pics....its a 91 yota land cruiser. No mods yet, but since we have 6 kids between us, we needed something to haul everyone out on camping trips... It'll be a great expo rig once i get it done.

grouse ridge trail is the one. take that down, and when you come to the T in the road, the camp sites are to the left.

I know it's hard to see on the map, but the T is right where GRT appears to end. If you switch from satellite view to map view, you can see the river / creek. The camp sites are to the left off of GRT right next to the creek.

Sorry to hear that, but i've been there before. We gotta go on a run sometime. You're to close to not do it. I'm going to be running Strawberry on monday the 27th if you have the day off. or can get it off!

I hear ya, i havent even gone wheeling with my buddy that got me into it. I can't do the 27th. too many guys off work already. I have the first weekend in Oct open so far.. Have fun and lets see that boat flex!! :pig:

Well that was fun! 4 hours of dust and "flexing" out the wagon LMAO, although we did manage to get it just past driveshaft hill!
