John-

Nice running into you guys on the trail. Boy did you have a long way to go! Did you make it back ok or should I notify Fresno County S & R? jk lol

What were your impressions?

Care to share any pics?

Here is a link to our pics-

Take a look, we didn't get too many good pics since there was only 4 in our group and when we hit a hard spot we were all busy (like Thompson Hill).

SC Naxja should plan a 4 day trip next year. Your thoughts?

Dan

What an adventure. We made it out saturday at noon. That trail was relentless. we started the trail sunday afternoon from Kaiser pass. We tried to get to the top of the hill to make camp but the toyota truck burnt the clutch. So we made camp somwhere halfway up the hill. We spent the night pulling the trans out and replacing the clutch. We had 6 days to do the trail and we only spent 1 extra night at Ershim lake. The rest of the days were 8 to 10 hour days of driving. my wifes trooper slowed us down the most but for the most part it did very well for an IFS vehicle. It did sustain some minor body damage though. I loved the look on peoples faces and then shaking there heads when they saw the trooper back there. My cherokee ran the trail great. It could do better with 33s rather than 31s though. I will post up pics tonight.

John-

Congrats to you and your party. I know after we met you and going thru what we went thru, then finding you guys with basically the entire trail to go, we all were impressed with the Trooper. Glad to see you made it ok.

We were out about two hours after we ran into you. But not unscathed however. The CJ5 blew a u-joint and had some minor engine problems that went unoticed until we hit pavement. What the heck, an extra two hours, at least we were on pavement!

Post those pics!

looks like a real fun trail. Where is it again, I might wanna try it some time soon. John what are the stats on your jeep? just trying to guage if i can run the trail or not. Thanx

Frontman-

What do you have? I know John has one locker and 31's. He made it. Personally I have 33's and locked at both ends, but it was still a chore due to the length of an XJ.

The only real mandotory piece of equipment IMHO are rock sliders. No matter how tall you are you will USE the rock sliders.

But, the Dusy isn't about what you have. It's about your prep. Vehicle, physical and mental, the Dusy will find your weakness and exploit it. Don't like hills? Got em. Don't like big rocks? Got em. Don't like leaning into a tree? Got em. Heep running hot? Wait until you get to Thompson. Brakes sub par? You get the picture.

Good luck and go for it.

Dan is right on. What I learned on this trip is the less built your rig is the slower you have to go or you will break something. It took us 5 full days of driving to finish this trail because we took our time and was careful

That trail must be hard when you are on 31's and one locker. Or in that trooper, almost looks stock height with no approach, departure or break over angles. You have to work hard to find a line that works in a rig like that.

Thanks for posting up, really great stuff!

I'm ready for another Dusy run. Who wants to plan and lead it?

I'll meet you at Ershim Lake and cook. :D

At 10 mph it's a 3 hour trail, one hour for lunch break, so more of a half a day run!

But I think Goatman will just slow us down!

Aw, c'mon, you guys know you're the slow ones, always stopping to consume and bullshit. :D

I just want to run in from Courtwright and camp at Ershim Lake for 3 or 4 nights. Take a day and run out to the top of the ridge and back, to enjoy the great view. Then head back to Courtwright when it's time to go.

You could drop trailers at Dinkey and go around, but I can't and have to backtrack.

I am ready to run Dusy again, though, gotta do it next summer. Should be real nice open air in the buggy.

I have a 3 in lift, no lockers, and not too woried about sliders, as the previous owner destroyed the bottom of the jeep. I ran 90% of deer valley, a couple of bypasses, that i didnt take on the way back, Had a great spotter for the tougher parts though, "thanx sharksxj". Would like to try it, but i am open open, and not ready to dump the money into a locker. I am thinking of picking up the 8.24 from rob 707, and seeing how I do with that. thanx for the info guys.

True but we are not stuck at 62.5 mph!! :looser:

Also Frontman I am sure you know this but that the Dear Valley trail is not even close to the level or the distance of the Dusy Ershim.
