I don't think it will be ready by th 5th, I have reserves that weekend also unfortunately. Hopefully you guys go again this spring, I'd love to get out to Uwharrie just for some camping, whether the Jeep goes on the trails or not.
I'm thinking about doing 2.5" coils, adj trackbar, whatever good DD shocks I can find for cheap, some 265/75/16 AT and some different wheels (My 17" Avilas are probably the most mom car looking wheels Jeep has ever made, so I'm looking for some silverblades, they're pretty available and cheap), all used and as cheap as possible, if possible. Probably fab up some simple sliders and skids, that should be enough to get me on a real trail. Maybe not doing much on that trail, but I'll be there, that's a good start. I know it probably needs more height since the breakover is bad, but under 4" is simple, so that's where I'll be for now.
Anybody know why WJs never seem to have much rear flex? They have a sort of triangulated rear, you would think it would flex really nice, but every one I've seen that doesn't have a completely custom fabbed rear end doesn't flex worth a shit. Maybe people are leaving their sway bar in place, but that can't be the case for everyone. I guess I'll just have to see for myself!
Off road I think the only thing the WJ has going for it is the V8, because by the time anybody is wheeling hard enough to take advantage of things like the 4 link rear or the so-so factory limited slip, they've replaced it anyway, and those things are easy to do to an XJ. Whereas the drawbacks of the long wheelbase and departure angle you can't really do anything about... I don't mean to get into an XJ vs WJ thing, that's been done to death, and the winner is clear. I'm just saying that yeah the WJ can be pretty good off road, but I know that it won't ever be great. For me though, I made the switch because for a 90% or greater DD and part time trail ride, I think the WJ wins. Wait, I wasn't supposed to be comparing them. Nobody even asked me, I just like to hear myself type.
