I haven't been on here since I got rid of the XJ and got a WJ, and man, the WJ community is not nearly as cool as you guys are lol. Everyone is either A) a mall crawler B) not a modder at all, they just like posting pics of their stock jeep on the internet or C) have 15k dollars worth of modifications with one tons and cages etc. Where are all the mild trail builds? I was thinking of you guys because I'm about to do a little lift and tires, and I realized I don't know any WJ guys to wheel with, so we're just going to pretend like my WJ is an XJ and I'm still going to show up to all your events and wheel with you guys :D

Ok ok, you can hang out with us here.

I like me some WJ action and would like to have one as a DD someday. You see very few of them with mild lifts but they look really good when you do.

join up and go red (March membership drive is still going on)

once you're red, you can get away with anything and we'll still love you like a retarded step brother:kissyou:

Yeah I was a red name member for like 3 years, Idk if I'll re-up, I didn't even know my membership expired, I figured I would have gotten an email or something.

I know a WJ isn't going to be able to crawl with XJs without being way more built up, but that's ok, I'll do the easy stuff.

We allow WJ's. Come on!!!

The way I see it, if you build it to the best of your abilities and can fix it when it breaks off road, you're welcome to ride on the trails with me any time. I don't care what you drive, it's about getting out there and using them for what they're built for.

I wheeled my WJ for years. A 4" lift and some 265s will get its belly off the ground and it will hang with most XJs on the trail. The WJ is no slouch off pavement. That's my WJ in my avatar.

Come to URE on the 5th! I'll be there and will wheel with anyone. Hell I wheeled with a Samari once or twice..... :rof:

What are you trying to say?

That Samurai is for sale in desperate need of buy to haul it out of my yard.

Actually make the 2 Samurai then...... ;) :eyes:

I don't think it will be ready by th 5th, I have reserves that weekend also unfortunately. Hopefully you guys go again this spring, I'd love to get out to Uwharrie just for some camping, whether the Jeep goes on the trails or not.

I'm thinking about doing 2.5" coils, adj trackbar, whatever good DD shocks I can find for cheap, some 265/75/16 AT and some different wheels (My 17" Avilas are probably the most mom car looking wheels Jeep has ever made, so I'm looking for some silverblades, they're pretty available and cheap), all used and as cheap as possible, if possible. Probably fab up some simple sliders and skids, that should be enough to get me on a real trail. Maybe not doing much on that trail, but I'll be there, that's a good start. I know it probably needs more height since the breakover is bad, but under 4" is simple, so that's where I'll be for now.

Anybody know why WJs never seem to have much rear flex? They have a sort of triangulated rear, you would think it would flex really nice, but every one I've seen that doesn't have a completely custom fabbed rear end doesn't flex worth a shit. Maybe people are leaving their sway bar in place, but that can't be the case for everyone. I guess I'll just have to see for myself!

Off road I think the only thing the WJ has going for it is the V8, because by the time anybody is wheeling hard enough to take advantage of things like the 4 link rear or the so-so factory limited slip, they've replaced it anyway, and those things are easy to do to an XJ. Whereas the drawbacks of the long wheelbase and departure angle you can't really do anything about... I don't mean to get into an XJ vs WJ thing, that's been done to death, and the winner is clear. I'm just saying that yeah the WJ can be pretty good off road, but I know that it won't ever be great. For me though, I made the switch because for a 90% or greater DD and part time trail ride, I think the WJ wins. Wait, I wasn't supposed to be comparing them. Nobody even asked me, I just like to hear myself type.

We've got a ride to Gulches planned for April 26th if you wanna go. As for that 4.7, yes they're great engine and give a good power vs. MPG ratio, just make sure you stay on top on the oil changes. They definitely don't like to be neglected at all. That's why you see so many on Craigslist that say "engine makes a ticking sound". The owners neglected the maintenance on them. When they start ticking you'd swear it's a cam follower, but it'll be a rod bearing most of the time. Been there & done that!

If you need parts and have questions about it don't hesitate to call my buddy Andy at Ironman 4x4 fab. He is in NC and built a 5.9 Grand as a ECORS racer and helps others on their rigs. Great guy with a lot of knowledge on all different vehicles.
