I have a 98 XJ with about 3.5" of lift, 5spd, 231. I just bought a Tom Woods SYE (told you I would Frank

) that I will be installing as soon as I source a driveshaft for it.

I'd like to do this as cheaply as possible. I have a stock front shaft out of an auto equipped XJ that may need to be rebuilt. I'm also not sure it's the proper length. Some people have indicated that it will be too short as I have a 5spd.

If I have one custom built, who should I trust in the metro area, and what should I expect to pay?

Thanks for the help guys!

rocky mountain driveline. the guy there cut, stretched and welded a brand new shaft for one of my friends for like 350. i'm sure someone else will tell me im stupid and give you somewhere better to go tho. so just wait like a day or two and see who else posts something.

Check out ebay. There is a shop in Salt Lake that sells on ebay, Tatton's Driveline. I run them front and rear, right at $230 (each) shipped is what I think I paid for them. No complaints. My first one I did was a stock front driveshaft that ended up costing me more in the long run.

Tom Woods, maybe? I've got his SYE/shaft kit and have no complaints so far. I couldn't readily find pricing for driveshafts only on his web site, but seeing as how his SYE/driveshaft combo is $400, I'd guess the shaft only would be in the $250-300 range. Free shipping, no sales tax, and being a NAXJA sponsor are pluses.

I was browsing around on their site and I must say i'm impressed. I think I will be talking to them in the near future for my CV driveshaft.

I called and spoke the them. I was quoted ~$250 for the driveshaft, and done the same day. I'll certainly be ordering from them later this week once I get measurements.

PERIOD.....

Talk to my buddy john. He’s the shop manager.

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. I ended up going with Driveline Specialists as they came highly recommended and ended up being the most affordable.

I picked up the shaft tonight and got it installed, along with getting the T/C drop kit removed and fixed the speedometer gear as I installed it wrong when I put the t-case back together.

Went for a drive and viola, no more vibes! I am beyond excited that the Jeep no longer vibes at any speed. I've only taken it to 80mph, and won't likely go higher as I never drive that fast in it anyway.

The bottom line is that so far, I am very happy with the driveshaft and the overall experience with Driveline Specialists. I'll update this thread in a month or so with a longer term review.
