I looked around the old threads and didn't feel like i found a conclusive answer. I have a 98 xj with a 3.5 inch rubicon express lift. It has 31x10.5s and i get i really bad vibration from take off up to about 45mph and then on the highway but not quite as bad. Also on the highway when i back off i get a quick grinding noise which goes away quick. I have the np242 or selc trac transfer case, i have installed 2 degree shims which didn't help as well as replacing the u joints. Since it has the np 242 it has the additonal skid plate on it and the t case rests on this with the t case lowering kit causing worse body vibration. I dont have the cash for the sye kit and driveline. Do i have other options? Can i get the t case lowering kit to work? I had a 92 xj with the same lift and didn't have this problem...any help/advice would be great.

t/c drop for now,When I finally did my 242 hack and tap and driveshaft,The t/c drop will wear things funny though, I had to replace my almost new motor mounts (rubber was chewed out from the weird angle the motor was at and the rear trans mount as well).Save your beans

Thanks, i modified the t case drop to work with the extra skid plate and it worked. Also discovered i had bad motor mount, car rides much better! How much did the whole drill and tap with the new driveline cost bcmaxx?

Is there a link or thread about the hack & tap SYE with a front drive shaft?

Is is it easily explainable. I am abut to do a 3" lift in a 96 with a NP231 and.

I was just doing a search on vibration and came across this one. I am not trying to hijack the thread just looking for links.

Thanks for the link that seems like the way to go takes care of the problem. Does anyone know if i need a 242 front shaft to work with my 242 t case or will any front shaft work on my 242 t case? Also does the front shaft need to come off of a 96 or newer to fot my 98?

I believe it depends more on which rear you have then the t case. i have a dana 35 and couldnt use a front drive shaft on mine. I went thru http://www.dpgoffroad.com/ for my hackntap and driveshaft
