Does anyone know the legality of going doorless in pa? I have seen tube doors so i think that is ok. as long as the mirrors are there. If anyone has any knowledge or know where i can find out it would be appreciated.
depends on who you pass while your doorless. Offically the the law states that you must have a 4" raise above the floor level, so XJ is good w/o doors but it also stated that it must be an option for the vehicle to come w/o doors or the doors to be removeable from the factory, bad for XJ's.
Do you have a 2 or 4 door? IMO 2 doors look ok sans doors but 4 doors do not until all 4 are off. But thats my opinion.
My 88 is going to get the mod but thats just easier to fix the cracked/splitting hinges that way.
If you do take them off figure out at least a drive side mirror.
i've taken my doors off a number of times i've only been stopped once and that was out by harleysville. what the cop told me was that its not the mirrors that are the issue because appearently the rear view is good enough. but because the doors are factory equiped to not be taken off you can get cited. however, i've talked to a couple of cops and they told me the most they can do is cite you and make you come back with the doors on. but you could always meet the wrong cop on the wrong day.
i drive around philly all the time see loads of cops and they never said a word. it seems that its only suburban cops that really care. i think its cause philly cops have more important things to do, like stop people from killing each other

pa code states that if you have a roof, you need doors.

I have been pulled once with my doors off.
they lectured me for like a half hour on the safety of the situation...
so while they were talking... I put my doors back on. party1:
(one of those rare occasions that I took the doors of and put them in the back instead of chained to a telephone pole some where...
haven't had a problem since, and I run doorless a lot.
anyway... during the lecture I asked him what he was going to cite me for. A MV code violation... which like JUNKIE said code violations just need to be signed off by a State trooper and sent back in. if you do that they don't fine you. BUT, most over paid underworked small town cops.. (like EXETER PA...) will take that opportunity to find everything and anything to cite you for... bumper height, offroad light placement. windshield wiper functionality, offensive bumper stickers referring to swine..:wstupid:
Maybe one of these guys from what 4 or 5 years ago now know the truth about it and will post up. Here in CA i found running half doors is much better at pissing cops off.
I've run tube doors on my 98 for some time and learned this: when you are told that the vehicle must have been originally equipped with "removable doors", the correct response is: "with the correct sized wrench, all doors are removable, officer, even the ones on your cruiser. How else would one fix them?" If you get the response "easily from the factory", inform them that a stock Wrangler requires a bolt be undone before the door can be removed. If you are still cited, fight the ticket and give the judge the full Lawyer Treatment. It is all subjective and cant hold up. Been there, done that.
