Dodge Ram lift

I know it's not Jeep related, but you guys are good and full of info. I may be Jeepless (for now), but now I need to toy around with my truck.

It's an '06 Dodge Ram 1500. I want to lift enough to fit some 35's under it and have it look nice and stout. I don't need it to be like the way huge lifted fullsizes (aka the dudes that are overcompensating haha)

Is it an easy and good enough thing to just go to Les Schwab and have them do it? I figure a lift on this doesn't really need to be as in depth as it gets on an XJ since my truck realistically won't be seeing a lot of trail time and offroading, but I still want it to be good quality.

Anybody have any good info on this?

If memory serves you can still just do a leveling kit and fit 35's. I have an '07 half ton and have 305 55 20's on it (33x12.50x20) and they do not rub at all, stock 20's, no lift, but on the '07 and newer trucks they changed the shock towers on the front and moved them closer to the tire (from internet research at least) so they cannot fit 35's even with a leveling kit.

The down side I have found from the leveling kits on a half ton, they tend to affect the ride, the front springs tend to have a stiffer ride than desired with the 2.5" leveling kit.

I know going from the stock 275 60 20's to the 305 55 20's I lost about 2 mpg, so if you are stock adding a leveling kit and 35's you may lose a decent amount of mpg's, just food for thought.

That being said, without a 6" lift or more, I have not driven a half ton dodge ('03 or newer) on 35's without the tires rubbing.

If it were me personally I would just run 33's and level the truck, looks good and you do not give up comfort, ride, and mpg's. A leveling kit is in the near future for my truck, I am tired of the rake.

Check out the instructions and see if it's something you can handle (it's about the same as doing a BB on an XJ...and you don't have to take the strut apart). I can get you the parts and if you don't want to install it my techs can do it. I just shudder when anyone suggests going to a tire shop for anything other than tires. :)
