To sum up what got my to this point, laptop was working fine before all this BS started, sat down to sue it one night, all was fine and out of nowhere it started clicking and beeping at me. A few minutes later, my desktop icons went away, then the drive all that info was stored on went away in my explorer window, figured to reboot and got a boot error. As of a short time ago however...
My laptop issues have me totally stumped now! My SATA to USB cable came today, and it tested out fine on a spare HDD. Plugged in the first drive from my laptop, got the expected sounds from it and lack of response on the computer... HOWEVER, upon plugging in my second drive, I got results I absolutely did not expect!!
Drive 2 loaded up no problem, the partition I called "Work" was on that drive, and I had THOUGHT that was it for the drive BUT my C DRIVE THEN ALSO TRIED TO AUTO LOAD IN WINDOWS ON THE TEST MACHINE!!!!!!!! I remember for some reason putting
C partition on the same drive as the partition that held ALL my personal files but apparently I was wrong! Needless to say, I am currently in process of backing up EVERYTHING ON THE WORK PARTITION, I can rebuild C drive, I didn't need anything that was on that drive anyhow. But this situation only begs more questions now, WHY THE HELL WON'T THE LAPTOP BOOT!!!!!!!! C drive seems to be fine, everything is there, No issues at all, but moreso than that, the one drive that should not have failed, did and I am COMPLETELY stumped as to why...
On top of all that now, it is behaving differently than it was inside the computer, It is still making the clicking sound, and the odd beep, but LESS often, and it will spin for a short time with no abnormal noise whatsoever! All research indicates this is a head problem, which still means recovery will be between about $800-$1800 (based on multiple quotes I have gotten thus far) Unless I can find some kind of software.
Damn I wish the warranty covered this... Even more now I hope and pray that they have to replace the laptop with a new model that has RAID support. I don't care anymore, I will take the reduced useable space so I can mirror the drives and once this all gets sorted out, will be doing either weekly, or bi-weekly backups FROM NOW ON!! Still planning on getting the new bigger drive too, will be needing a backup of my external drive as well. Then the big backup drive will be getting a nice new home in a fireproof safe. For now, back to waiting on these 137ish gb's to finish backing up...
Any ideas or input anyone? The DOA drive unfortunately has ALL my reference stuff for my Jeep build, ALL my saved writeups, all my pics and progress pics, all my factory service info and everything is on that drive. Even more than that, it has all my personal files, documents, and other things on it as well... Thanks for ANY help you can provide me on this, I SERIOUSLY do appreciate it.
