I'm running a 10" Dayton Audio RSS265HO-4. The magnet on this thing is huge. I'd have more leftover airspace with a smaller/shallower sub but his one sounds perfect for me as it is and even hits a tad lower after I added some polyfil.

When you choose a speaker, just make sure you don't go too deep on the mounting depth. Their site lists the maximum.

Great job on a great idea!!!!

I spent my money on the Select Increments XJ Pod with 8" Legacy SW....it looks very nice but I prefer yours, more discreet and cheaper.
This is mine:

And thats how I fitted the Amp under the right seat:

I'll be running a JL 10W1 in it when mine gets here Monday.

I'd love to do my amp under the rear seat but I keep spare axle shafts there.

nice sub man. You guys shouldn't down Dayton Audio subs just because you've not heard of them. I used to work for the company that sells them (www.partsexpress.com) most of the dayton speakers are manufactured by some High end companys. I have a Dayton 10" Titanic as my home audio subwoofer and it is amazing. I used two in my Ex's focus and it was unbelieaveable. But i am glad to see a company willing to produce the encloser for you and also smart enough to make a design to be able to duplicate it for others.

here is my custom enclosure just cuz i wasted a post:laugh:

Its not really do it yourself or "stealth" but heres my setup. Takes the space of on full size 10", 2 back to back slim 10"=loud speakers + great bass. and i mounted my amp on my roof.

I'm definately not downing Dayton. I'm big into home theatre stuff also (I use Paradigm surrounds and a Martin Logan Abyss sub) and have heard their HT stuff was good, I had just never seen them in an automotive application before the guys at subthump suggested them. It's extremely clean and accurate, so it's exactly what I was looking for. If anything I feared it might be overkill.

anyone else have cool amp mounting ideas? headliner is pretty dope. same with the speaker bar. i like the stealthy under the seat design. but does anyone have pics of anything different?

Nice product.

For a grill, why don't you just use one of these...

Mesh Grill

I think that would be just fine and is what I originally planned to use since it's pretty discreet. Later I decided I'd like the strength of the 1/4" steel bars because of all the heavy junk I carry around when I go camping. When I got it I realized it bolts together a little hokey with tiny screws so I welded it solid and repainted it. I may put a mesh one on later just for dual coverage in case something slips between the bars.

x2 on putting a good grill on it. I can't see leaving the speaker unprotected and not being able to fill up the back with junk. I went with the classic heavy-duty pro sound style on mine. It didn't extend out far enough so I used rubber bungee cords to space it out and clear at full excursion. Not super pretty but very functional.

My box will be here tonight, expect a full write-up soon.

Ok

Installed it today. It does indeed come with instructions that are a bit vauge about a few things, but overall good enough to make the install go well.

This was my cargo area before:

The red bag is my trail bag, tools, fluids, tow strap, etc. Between that the sub and the tire, not much room for other camping gear. A JCR carrier is on the way to get rid of the tire, then a new cargo box will go in thats level with the wheel arches. The air tank bracket for a tank that I don't have was removed as well.

You trim out the cubby to the outside edge of the lip of it. The instructions say to use a jigsaw. I found it to be a bit rough that way, needed alot of touching up. A good razor blade works very well with the interior plastic on a cherokee, cuts straighter and gives you a good option for cleaning it up. I cut out the cubby and the lip on the bottom then mocked the box up:

Subthump says some wires have to be moved out of the way and a hole drilled; I think this depends on the year. My wires needed to be moved but I didn't need to drill a hole and relocate a plug. Its very hard to get the supplied screws through the sheet metal as well, they could stand to be a bit longer/better cutting. I got 2/3 in.

I put the sub in, moved my amp under the rear seat, wired it up and tested it. Since it worked I put the panel back on:

And with the wheeling gear back in. I can't wait for my bumper to get here.

Haven't tested the sound much since it was late when I finished but it sounds like its hitting pretty good for a smaller box. I don't need a huge amount of bass, just like a little thump in the music for the full experience.

This box is very well constructed and I'd recommend it to anyone.
