Diesel

Also might have run into a problem using the V6 3.0 diesel as saw a under bonnet shot f one at auction fitted to a XH Commander and there was a lot of stuff fixed to the inner fender wells. With the Willys tapering so much I dont think I could fit all that in even though the engine itself will easily. Might have to look at the WG which had a straight 5 2.7 litre diesel which is also a Merceedes one from the M class. Torque is 400 Nm and 120 kW which is not to sabby either. Using a conversion site that comes out to 295 ft.lbs and 161 hp.

Just been searching online and the 2.7 is pretty crowded too.

Still it looks to be mostly battery and airbox. Battery could go under the bed and airbox could always be changed for a cyclone type like I used and mounted on the outside on top of the guard? Was popular mod here for the trucks and also FJ40 Landcruisers

Here is the 3.0 V6 by comparison. Might not be that much different?

It's hard to tell with the plastic junk on the engine and such. OHC engines can cause clearance issues too but we are talking about an old truck... They are generally big compared to modern stuff. You'll likely be able to make it fit with enough thought - if it doesn't just slip in already.

anther nice option could possibly be the most expensive option.. Mercedes.
The hard part would be finding one, and then having a custom made trans adapter.
Oh and also paying for it....

Little bit of info:

2005+6 E320cdi I6 / 2007 and up ML320 + R320 + GL320 CDI v6's

I6 / V6 (72° V angle)

displacement:
3226 cc / 2987 cc
compression:
18.0:1 / 16.5:1
power:
201 hp @ 4200 rpm / 215 hp @ 3800 rpm
torque:
369 lb-ft @ 1800-2600 / 398 lb-ft @ 1600-2400

Personally, I'd go with the 3.2L inline...

There is a Mj at the bone yard here with a factory diesel in it. Who made it? They want $300 for the whole engine and everything it needs and it runs.

Don't know about down in Oz but here in the states, the Willys trucks have one piece windshields in 1960. Not to nit pick, just pointing it out. I used to have a 1954 pickup, I love those old things.

Just looking at this page it looks like 1960 was the change over year with some split and some not.
