Dicks Divorce Causing XJ Build

but i do wanna start welding. once i do that, ill pretty much be able to do most of my own work. i love having a garage and not being totally mechanically incompetent.

ok i found the 8.25. out of a 98 xj. $100 and he'll even have it out of the jeep for me. when he gets the front clip and doors off, he'll get it out of there for me. if im going SYE style, should i go ahead and get the front DS? or just the rear? or both or neither?

pretty sure the front ds from an automatic will work in the rear for your lift, might be wrong though, definately get the rear ds

i dont think im gonna get my bonus in time, Jon. or i would. i still might, but depends if he has it or not. id like to cause he has everything i want. i just want to have a back up plan in case hes got it parted or sold before i get my bonus. i let him know i might now be able to get it. we'll see tho

i made some good progress today. i cut out all the bad floor on the driverside. cleaned off all the surface rust there and in the cargo area. then got a couple coats of black rustoleum paint. and i got the kind that says you can put on rust and it will stop it. i got as much surface rust off that i could, then used this a precautionary measure. tomorrow ill go ahead and finish the passenger side. i got all i need to fix the floors also, besides the actual replacement floors(ll be getting them next week from rockauto for 41 a piece. not a bad deal at all). set screws, sealer, paint, and spray bed liner for under the floors. looks better inside as well. i think my next mechanical fix will be a fuel pump. cause i cant start it with 8psi of fuel when the truck is cranking. it takes spray into the air intake tube to start it, then it runs really good. for the most part haha. i still need to figure out the high idle issue but i can take my time with that.

ill take updated pics tomorrow and give a before and after.

If you want something else to piss with, when you have the fuel pump out you can do that mod where you extend the pipe that dumps fuel in the tank from the filler neck up a few inches and increase your fuel capacity. I want to do it on mine, since my drive to school can almost be done on one tank, and if I had that extra 5 gallons, I could do it, but my arms are almost too thick to reach it through the fuel pump hole. Lame!

haha. maybe ill look into that. ive never heard of it before. while i have the tank dropped, im gonna try and get a good sanding and coat of paint and/or undercoating. i figure the spot right above the tank i can use the regular spray stuff since its not getting pelted with rocks and road debris. my fiance is out of town all weekend, so from friday night on ill be working on the heep all day. fixing all the little stuff i need done for inspection.

i do have a quick questiion about high idle issue. if i start the heep it will rev to 25oo and stay there. then i go unplug the flat plug from the TPS and it comes down to regular idle. then i plug it back in and its fine. if i revi it up it will come back and stop around a grand and not go all the way back, but never goes back to the 2500 idle till its shut off and restarted. any ideas on that?

When Rob darn near hydrolocked his that day we were out and I almost rolled, he ate that sensor can't remember what that one is called for sure or if it is the same one he killed but his was doin the same thing if you remember. He changed that sensor and he was good to go.

So, is all lower case like you're whispering to us?

Go-Jeep tank mod.

I used the copper elbow and short length of pipe method. I can get a little over 24 gals in, if I fill slowly.

yeah. i went out and started it when i took the pics below and it didnt do it today. so i dunno. im gonna replace the fuel pump after i finish the floors and see where that takes me. it took a while of turning over before it tried to start, and a few retries for it to stay running. that was w/o the spray. and it didnt high idle at all. so only if i spray does it high idle. ill see where im at after the pump is replaced and go from there.

so here is my progress on the floors. should be able to tell a difference haha.

that actually seems pretty cool. if i remember ill do it while mine is down next week.

ok. so quick update. ordered the first floor pan for fix. 44 bucks shipped from rockauto for a 18 gauge MADE TO FIT floor pan. only the driverside front floorpan. i only ordered one, so i can see how far back it goes and better understand if ill need more than just the fronts to complete the floors. we'll see.

but i wanted to share $44 shipped, so even if you needed the entire driver and passenger side its only about $90 a side. thats a hell of a deal

usually when fuel pumps go out, they are either out or they work. no in between. they will give you signs some times such as being loud, or just flat out quitting. just thought id throw that out there to add to your confusion.. err, i mean save you from wasting cash on a fuel pump

well then what else causes almost ZERO fuel pressure? if i dont have to replace it i wont. But im at a loss for fuel pressure issues if its not the pump or the regulator

clogged filter? what i was saying was the pump "itself" usually goes out or it works. now if you had a wire shorted that could cause and intermittent problem. you need to do some more diagnostic work and make sure you are getting power to the pump, make sure the ground is good, there should be a pick up screen (pre filter) in the tank for the pump that could be clogged, you can also trace your fuel pump wires back while you have the interior stripped and check any plug ins that they go through. there could be more but thats just a list to get you started

as i was talking with some friends last night, checking the screen is the first thing ill be doing. i expect it to be clogged. my biggest concern for it is that the fuel pressure drops instantly when the motor is shut off
