Desert runs in mid-June?

Not wanting to conflict with the proposed Rowher run, I'm putting forward a call for a desert run somewhere around the weekend of the 18th of June.

Went up to Calico yesterday to map out what I could, and found a couple of trails that were new to me. Anyone who's been on Pronghorn up at Gorman can enjoy the same sense of claustrophically narrow trails, only without the fear of sheer drops off to one side. Incidentally, the ambient temperature spiked at 108degF - just the thing to prompt a good cooling system overhaul ;)

So... Calico, Mojave Road, other destinations?

Too hot for me.......the desert is for fall, winter and spring. It's mountain wheeling time in the summer. :D

I agree, weather in Big Bear was great today, didn't see any :bunny: though. LOL!! Hope ya found you're problem Jay.

Found a fantastic waterfall on Holcomb.

Sorry 'bout the hijack. How about a Death Valley run in the second of third weekend August? Maybe three of four days?

Laugh it up, but I've been there at that time and the weather was on the warm side but it was nice :D Funny thing was that the hotter it is there the more likely you are to encounter some sort of a bicycle race across the Death Valley !

I've said it before... desert trips in the winter & mountain trips in the summer.
I was up in B.B on Sat. & my rig got hotter than I wanted.
I have to agree with the Goatman on his think'n.
I have to live in it but I don't have to wheel in it.....BUT ! hey more power to ya if you do.
Remember the neccesities like the h2o, a hat, sunscreen & to have a good cooling system(s) i.e. oil & trans.
Be safe... and in the fall let me know & we can head out East of me in the desert.
See Ya !

This past spring was AMAZING !! out that way.. I bet the Mojave Rd. was twice as colorful as last year.
Anytime from fall to spring (Oct. to mid. Apr.) spring is best to run the Bradshaw about 2-4 weeks after a good rain, 2 days ( 2.5 if Rollins if attending with his camera :laugh3: ) 3 with side trips AND ! no Soda (not so) dry lake :) (Wheres Andy?!) We're starting a MAJOR canal lining project which might conflict with the first 10 or so miles but theres not much to see there. Not as much history as the Mojave Rd. but still some stuff to see.(especially if you consider the temps. & mode of transportation those folks used 130 yrs. ago) no 4 wheel'n just exploring, camping & the Geode Beds.
Maybe next spring if anyones interested....even if it's just you and Sonia.... well Sonia...
See Ya !!

Let's make it five days, but three of those can be rockcrawling out of the basin :D

Aaaaaanyway, since it looks like I'm the only one who likes the megaheat (for a day or two at a time, anyway) I'll pass and wait for the next Mojave Road run. Which, incidentally, looked really great this year.
