DD with larger (36"+ tires) TROLLS GALORE

Re: DD with larger (36"+ tires)

My mistake on a typo.. I would be running a HP D44 up front, as well as a 44 from an XJ. Meant to originally put
currently have empty D44 HousingS

A single point of failure, like oh say the cable?

...No. A single point of failure for both axles. A compressor would more than likely fit that bill...

I'll have to look into a new suspension I suppose no matter what size I go with.. didn't consider the difference in the size of the housing/welding to the housing.

Right around the stock rear 44 WMS, 60.5" or so.

The '92 has been through a lot, and just requires too much money to get it where I want it. The whole front end and suspension need to be rebuilt/fresh bushings, the steering box area on the frame (despite being brace) has hairline cracks, and the 242 is in need of a rebuild as well. It won't stay in 4 anymore.

I plan to take my bumpers, maybe my new(ish) 35's, Tom Woods shaft and move into an 01' with 50k miles to suit both needs, both on and off-road.

Plus the whole rig is sitting right around 240K miles of abuse.

Wrong if you design it correctly.

I use a 3 way valve to engage my rear ARB (no electronics other than for the actual compressor itself).

Open to pressurize rear locker, Closed to close off the pressure to the rear locker (aka if any other line in front of the valve loses pressure, my rear locker stays locked), and Vent to release pressure to the rear locker.

Also, I have everything plumbed to/from a manifold with a quick disconnect fitting onto it. If my air compressor takes a dump, all I need is an air hose from a pressurized air source and I'm back in business. All in all I have to thank XJEEPER for the design.

So basically, it ends up with the same situation you have. One air hose going to my rear diff that would have to physically break in order to prevent me locking my rear axle. And mine enters the diff from the top, whereas the OX cable enters from the diff cover (aka gets bashed quite often).

Re: DD with larger (36"+ tires)

Incase you didn't know florida is flat with zero hills, up here in the northeast we have thiee hills and mountains, so bring your cousins uncles baby,s mommas daddys mudtruck up here and well see how it doesnow that that bullshit is out of the way to the op if ya go any bigger then 35's then axle swaps are pretty much required wich with the iro kit only works with a d30 so your XXXXed there

Ok, twinkletits, :twak: I don't have a mud truck, never have, never will...but, if I did it would work better than yours since yours doesnt move... :looser:

To the OP: I still say, do what you want, it's your rig. Just build it so you don't end up killing someone on the road.

Rob, just stirring the pot a little... your rig is awesome

Re: DD with larger (36"+ tires)

Your not wheeling hard enough

Good luck!

Re: DD with larger (36"+ tires)

Like everybody before me has mentioned, upgrade your axles if you are going above 35s. I just swapped a set of 2008 JK d44s in mine with 4.88s. Front is from a Rubicon so it has the e-locker. I am currently running 37x12.50x17 MTR Kevlars on a JK Rubicon wheel unbalanced. This is my DD. Not sure why everybody is so afraid of 37s as a DD. I have no problems at 70mph, no shakes, wobble, or pulling. Take the time and build it right and it drives awesome. I am at 6" of lift with trimmed front and rear fenders. I have the liquid iron shackle relocation kit and I'm running a custom long arm set up on the front. It honestly drives better then it did when I was DD'ing it on 33 KM2s. I took the time to adjust my suspension and spent the extra money on the good parts. Oh, and did a TON of reading. Oh, and I get 17mpg city and 19-20mpg highway.

some states have lift and tire coverage laws, im sure leagally you can dd a rig on 47's in Texas

"I have the liquid iron shackle relocation kit"
Awesome... does that system have a self adjusting shackle angle corrector?
JK I just HAD to on that one!! LOL!

Not sure I understand? I presume from your last post you didn't think they existed?

When I installed my lift my angle was at 90 degrees and it sucked. Got the Liquid Iron relocation kit for this past Christmas and it is a night and day difference. Highly recommend. They are beefy too.

6 mpg's over stock with 37's?
Bush really did XXXX up your states education. Oh

To the op, you could fix your 92 for about the same price your 38's will cost you

Dont let the Canadians win

Mine is a 1998 4.0L. I am getting right at stock MPGs. Not really sure what you were thinking.

Here is the window sticker for a 2000 XJ. Same MPG rating as a '98.
