Dating tips... LONGER.

It's raining today and I have no covered area to work. I also won't be back to work on the Jeep until May. I'll just do as suggested above and find some local jeepers come summer time.

As for your questions... I was in the car when the arc occured so I didn't get to see it personally. My buddy said it came from the general area of the transmission dipstick tube as it comes up the firewall.. not saying that it was the tube but there are a lot of wiring harnesses going every which way in that area. Looks like 2 or 3 ECU connections, a ground, spark plug coil rail harness, some sensor that bolts onto the block just forward of the oil dipstick tube. Any idea what that one is? I'm not even sure if that one is correctly installed and haven't been able to ID it. I imagine it could possibly be the culprit.

I couldn't see any evidence of the arcing so I can't really give you a much more detailed answer.

It will not turn over. There was spark before the arcing as it would run everynow and then. I haven't been able to check after the arcing. There is fuel pressure.

The CEL is now on. I'm happy about that.

2lazy2p: Already got an Integra lined up to replace my Jeep for the summer. IThe Jeep is my DD.. or was so yeah it sucks to be without it. I've got the summer off in a couple of weeks so I'll work on it. I've got some marine mechanics who know a little about I6's I believe it will be worth it in the end to get it back on the road. I'm working on being able to decipher wiring diagrams as well as locating my voltmeter... i think it's in the Gulf of Mexico somewhere.....

Just a shot in the dark, could be way off on this, do you still have juice in batt? Do you think since it wont crank over, that the spark could have came from the starter?

Could be no juice but in the entire course of having dealt with no starts lately ... it has not been the battery but I will check it just to rule out the simple. I imagine that's the most logical place for this newest symptom.. the starter.

I haven't looked toward the starter yet because it does not explain the symptoms which caused me to start fiddling with the Jeep in the first place. No fire, won't stay running, overheats, makes a hell of a ruckus when running etc That is unless a problem with the starter could be effecting the entire system while running.

I'll be pissed if this turns out to be a foul tank of gas. Come to think of it this has all occured since my last fill up... but that's a bit cum hoc ergo propter hoc.

check the ground strap from the head to the body at the rear, when i swapped motors, i managed to not get that ground back on just right, had intermittent no start, get your buddy to crank it and check that spot

The wide flat one that goes right from the head to the firewall? Good call... as of right now it's just rigged up to the head by a spare bolt... I'll make it legit.

On a side note I went out during a break in the rain and disconnected the battery... let it sit for about 20 minutes then hooked it back up. Fired right up and idled fine for about 5 minutes. No hesitation, idled at about 800 which is up from it's usual 450-550 area. Exhaust smelt normal. CEL never came on.

My oil is rather spent for only being about 3,000 miles old so I'm going to change it out. It's hard to gauge its level when my dipstick tube is about half an inch shy of being completely seated in the block. I look at it as character. That added to the rear main seal leak and a leak underneath the timing chain cover make for a hell of a time keeping it proper.

Could being low on oil cause my first troubles?

However I feel I am not out of the woods yet... but knock on wood it's running well.
