I plan on running 33's, and about a 4.5 inch lift (maybe an inch more), lots of armor (exo-cage, bumpers, winch, rocker guards etc.) and I am wondering about my stock axles (Dana 30/Corporate 8.25 both 27 spline). I hear a lot of people say stock axles aren't really worth putting money in, but I am thinking with my 33's I want to run 4.56's and a rear locker. Is this worth it? I have access to some Wagoneer Dana 44's for about $150 each but I am wondering if I am really going to need them. Most of what I wheel is mild and I'm not heavy on the stupid pedal.

Is it worth it to put lockers, gears etc. in my stock axles or should I go ahead and buy the D-44's (I myself cannot fab the bracketry to do the install work etc.) or stick with what I have for now and upgrade when I start breaking stuff?

Thanks for any input you can provide and remember this is my daily driver/weekend wheeler.

THANKS!

Well If you cand say your not going to go any bigger than 33s and youare reasonable on the stupid petal I'd say ya keep the stockers with just a few changes. When you get a locker for the rear get one for a 29 spline 8.25 and get some shafts that will be much better than trying to keep the 27 spline. Dpending on what year your XJ is you would want to atleast hve some shafts with the 297/760 u-joints or if you can spend a little more and plan on a ARB get the 30-30 kit. 33s on 4.5 is a nice size after you trim the fender using something like TJ flairs(pm if you want to see pics since I don't have them online) and 4.56 are a good gear for 33s as well.

Can you maybe send some contact info. to me and is he parting them all out or are you just getting hooked up?

It's a 91, what would I have to do to go 29 spline on the rear? Different carrier?

Different spider gears -- that's what actually engages the ends of the axle shafts.

...

Right now I have no clue how to contact the guy. My friend just told me when I needed them let him know. I usually have trouble with other people snatching up all this stuff I have a lead on before I can even get the stuff myself. I'll try and get some info cause I am sure this guy has plenty to go around though.

Well, if you decide to go w/ the 44's, send me some contact info. after you get them. I know exactly what you mean by people snatching stuff you have leads on and I don't like doing it myself. Good luck w/ whatever you decide and iI hope it all works out for you.

You're going with the same setup as me. I'm going with a 4.5" RE SF kit, but getting a set of 4.5" ZJ coils and 4.5" XD leaves, getting 4.56 gears and 33" SSR's. I use this as my DD and weekend trails, so i've been researching the stuff to. But I think i'm going to leave them unlocked and just save for new axles.

waggy 44's are cheap as hell can pick up front and rears for 150 for a pair. No one wheels within miles and miles around me so i can get anything
