D30: RCV Performance or chromoly with 760's

I'm running stock shafts with 760's, 32's and a lockright. We'll see how this works out.

i know its just my .02 but i ran a high pinion 30 with 35in bighorns and 4.10s w/locrite. i kept busting axles at the ujoints. i swapped in cromollys and big honking ujoints. then i ate ring gear. twice.

the second time i had cryo'd gear set in and killed em. then the d44 went in with the 9in out back.

like i said just my .02

I think no matter what, some people will always see the D30 as a turd. I kind of like it, but that's just me. I also like the idea of being able to run stock shafts, share with fellow jeeps, etc. This is the main reason I didn't do front axle swap.

I've run chromo shafts and 760s for a while now on 35s with a Loc-Rite.

Once I had a outer shaft shear right at the ear. Didn't break the joint.

The only other problem I had out of them was that the splines twisted. They didn't fail. Just twisted. In fact, I didn't realize they had until Mark posted up a picture of it.

I've never owned RCVs so I can't give my opinion here.

From what I hear you made a good decision. If I could afford them I'd certainly give the RCVs a try. Currently, the only thing in my budget was Doug's old chromos. I've seen video of what that particular set of shafts can handle and I'm super happy to be getting them this week. (If Glenn and Doug managed to hook me up!)

I voted RCV

I'm running the RCV's(Bobby Longfields) and I think I have the first set produced and I have never had an issue with them.

I'm also running a full case Detroit, Yukon R&P, RuffStuff cover, and home brewed truss on 35's

I like the D-30 for the ground clearance. The less stuff I get hung on the easier on the throttle I can be. For spares I just carry a set of stub shafts cause if something breaks it will be the R&P no need to have spare shafts with the RCV's

I have seen 2 broken dana 30 ring gears and quite a few on the web.
Every single one had a lunchbox with the stock carrier.
Once you add chromolly shafts the stock carrier needs to go.

What do you mean "stock carrier"? I know I had to switch the carrier when I moved to 4:88. Is that enough? Or is there something else that you are talking about?

The only difference is the width, you still had the stock carrier.
I still have a brand new stock carrier sitting in my basement, before I installed my e-locker I compared them. They are worlds apart.

I have cracked a carrier. I had forgot about that. I too agree that a full case locker would be ideal.
