cutting compound

I know cutting compound is designed to remove sandpaper marks, but it is also capable of going through the paint due to the abrasive properties. I am wondering if I can use this to my advantage to address some defects w/out sanding

I have some orange peel on the door pillars and I don't want to sand there due to all of the creases and folds. Can I use cutting compound to smooth that down?

I have a couple of spots of fuzzy overspray where I ran out of paint and apparently did not resume at the correct place. Can cutting compound smooth that out?

you are better off sanding those area's. yes the cutting compound will help those area's but you will see the difference in shine depth if you alter the way you are fixing defects.compound alone is not enough.painting needs patience and to not skip steps if you want the best possible result.

okay thanks. The overspray fuzz is on the door unfortunately so I guess I will wetsand the whole side. I don't care about color depth on the pillars since they will not be seen in the same lighting as the sides or hood, so if going straight to polish will get rid of the orange peel there then I will be more than happy with that
