Crashed jeep into a tree offroading, ARB bumper folded like a pancake, need advice...

but srsly, quit crashing into tree's....
AT LEAST say you were in someone's dust!

my friend's done worse damage on cactus
damage looks reasonable for a 20+ mph crash into a god damn tree.

High Speed desert rallying............ REALLY!! Sounds like you were acting like a foolish kid!! :banghead:

You said the pic doesn't do it justice, but it sure looks relatively intact considering you plowed 4,000 lbs of vehicle into a basically immovable object. I'd say you got off okay given the circumstances. If your uni-rails are still viable, i.e. you can straighten things out and mount a new bumper, you're lucky. Shit's thin up there, a non-absorbing bumper seems like it would have destroyed that front clip area.

I center punched a doe last September running away from me at 20 mph ( I guess - I had time to lock up the brakes. ) It destroyed the grill, concaved the condensor, and shoved the radiator into the fan clutch, which cut a nice doughnut in my all brass three core.

A frickin 100 pound deer - again, running down the road the same direction. You got off lucky. I'm looking for a bumper like what you have to help minimize any future repeats.

Stick with what you know will work. A stiffer bumper will total the front end and then the Jeep will be toast - or you will be. Are you running a five point racing harness? Whatever, replace it. Just like a helmet, seatbelts are only good for one hit.

Fer instance: the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant let their elk restocking program literally die off when Security kept totaling their 4WD patrol trucks in nighttime collisions. The elk tended to use the roadways at night for trails, and an 1100 pound animal getting hit over 30 mph tends to shove the engine under the floor a little - which is exactly how Detroit designed it. Better than in your lap.

Successful offroader's learn the dynamics and stay on top of the dirt - not six feet under.

So I was out doing some high speed desert rallying last night. Tire got sucked into a pit of soft dirt and sucked me right into a big tree. I was going about 50 but the actual impact was closer to 20mph,...

...,Any suggestions?
More talent?

...,At 20mph in a tree, I don't know a lot machines that won't have any damage, a M113 maybe,...
Won't hurt the hull or tracks, but it will rip everything bolted onto the side off(been there,...)

Seriously, stop complaining.
That bumper saved your jeep. I've heard a couple of stories of XJs getting totaled because of hitting a deer that did WAAAY more damage than your TREE!

It honestly doesnt look bad at all.
Your fender is pushed back 1/2"? Thats nothing.
Your bumper only moved 2"? Again, thats nothing, especially because it was at 20mph.

Cars are tested at 40mph and a lot of times the bumper gets pushed almost all the way back to the A-pillar if it weren't for the tire in the way. So, Id say you got away pretty good.

Drive off a cliff and see how the bumper holds up. Give us another post and lets us know how it held up. Just kidding, seriously who cares if a bumper is bent. If the heep still runs and is safe, WHEEL IT.
