COPS and fender trimming.

If you are going to run it on the road, I would put some type of flares on it. I ran with out them for a week while my flares were on order and got a ticket from Clackamas county. It was a fix it luckly. I had to have the tread completely covered and have mudflaps no higher than 16" inches off the ground to get rid of it. My personal opinion is that anything run on the road should be covered. I don't want stricker laws because some people received broken windshields. I had the backspacing and width of tires you are talking about, and my Bushwackers were just shy of completly covering the tires.

Thankx all for the help, especially the link to the oregon laws.

Canopener, Does that mean you got er done. If so I would say lets meet up sometime but if you saw my thread about "scratching" the XJ you will understand why that wont happen anytime too soon.

It is not the fault of the vehicle that kicked up the rock. It's the dumba$$ fault for following too close to the vehicle in front of them.
There are two ways gravel and stones can hit a windshield. If the stone or gravel is on the road and gets kicked up by a tire, it's a road hazard. However, if the truck is a gravel truck and is zooming down the road with his load gradually dribbling off the top and out around the corners of the tailgate, that's failure to secure load and the driver is liable.

Just a wild idea here, but if you see a truck with a load of rock, or a missing mud flap, why not stay back a little ways?

My step-dad goes through at least two windshields a year because he hasn't figured it out yet.

I drive the same roads and haven't replaced one yet.

USE COMMON SENSE!

Can't you just shoot someone for that in Texas?

Lets see - shootings that I know of that resulted in "No Indictment" decisions from Grand Juries.

1. A guy from Scotland got drunk and started climbing backyard fences to get to the next block. He was shot dead off the top of a fence. No evidence that he was intent of mischief. The grand jury cited tresspass.

2. Japanese exchange student, in a tuxedo, shot dead on the front sidewalk. He got lost on the way to the prom at his host highschool. He made no attempt to enter the house. He was simply asking the woman of the house for directions. She hollered at her husband who came to the door and shot the kid dead. The grand jury cited "fear of injury to self and family."

3. A guy, two months behind on payments, shot a repo agent in the back, through the back of the cab of the pickup being reposessed. The grand jury cited fear of loss of property. Even though the truck was technically not his property, since he was behind on payments, the law speaks only to a fear of loss of property - not to the technical point of actual ownership.

4. Two pickups hit mirrors in traffic. The two pulled onto the shoulder. One of the drivers got out, aproached the other truck and started punching that driver through the open window. The driver being punched had a license to carry concealed. He drew and shot the other guy dead in the chest. The grand jury cited fear of bodily harm.

Now I'm not going to participate in any discussions of morality or gun control. I only point out an established precedence. I would say: Yes, you certainly could "just shoot someone for that in Texas."

Have a nice day, Y'all

So which would you rather do, pay out $100 for a new windsheild and get your flap fixed or have the cops poking about your bussiness and eventually taking a day off work for a court appearance?

Just curious, where you are getting $100 windsheilds...............?

I have 35 12.5's on my XJ with stock flare's and no cut out's. Although I am going to cut the front part of my fender's off by the bumper to avoid any rubbing on hard turns. If someone can tell me how to post my pix on this site I can show you.
