Hi guys.......

I need to know a part number or some fix for the item in this picture that is leaking. I know I've had a coolant leak for MONTHS, but could never find it in the usual spots (reserve tank would mysteriously drain). But this morning, I started it up when it was pretty cold out, and popped the hood just to check the tank...well, this part was dripping coolant pretty bad. I thought it might be one of the hoses on it, but when it heated up and stopped, the dried coolant looked like it was coming from the little metal rod part. Any help appreciated.... I hope this isn't a dealer part or something. It's a 96 4.0 with 231 btw. Thanks,

in front of passenger side, dripping onto the oil filter. I think it's some kidn of evaporator or something.

So it's leaking from the metal rod going in o the vertical "pipe" above the Philips head screw in the center of the picture?

Or is it coming from the black plastic arm that attaches to the metal rod going in to the vertical "pipe"?

If the hoses and clamps are tight , order yourself a new hot water valve. Its a vacuum actuated valve that routes hot coolant through your heater core

thanks for the quick responses!

RTFM: yes, it seems to be coming from the little metal rod that is right above the phillips head screw.

So "hot water valve"......? or "heater control valve"?

Thanks everyone! guess it's time to start calling around. ...it never fails, every day I ever take off, something comes up..........

Just your jeep's way of asking for attention. If you were nicer to it, it wouldn't have to resort to that kind of behavior.

be sure to bleed/ burp the air from the system after replacement. Heat on high and let her run 'til the thermostat opens (may want to change that also since the system is open anyway)

I changed my brother's oil in his 93 the other day and it was leaking at the rod and dripping on the oil filter like yours is, so some internal seal went bad on the hcv. I went to change my oil after his and wouldn't you know that mine was leaking somewhere on the body above the valve. So yeah, it's a Jeep thing.
