hey all, does anyone in the los angeles area have the ability to run a diagnostic check on my 01 xj. every year i go to the snow my engine light comes on, usually when i get back it goes away, this time its not. and im not sure if this is a related problem but when im driving around and then turn the car off, come back in a couple min. and start the car again, it runs rough and the engine shakes around for couple seconds then runs smooth. just checking to see if anyone can help out. thanks.

do they then require that you fix it there if they find a problem? i kinda want to see what the problem is and just fix it myself. ill give them a call though. thank you.

AutoZone is an Auto Parts store, not a repair shop.

You have got to be kidding me!

Are you new to AMERICA?

It is FREE

They charge you the $69 for the rental unit and return the $69 to you when you bring it back. It is a rental program but it is free.

I just ran the code for my expedition a couple of weeks ago.

At one point AutoZone would read odb2 codes for free. Then state of California got involved and they stopped doing that @ most of the stores.

Just buy the code reader for $99 and keep it (or $69 or whatever it is they charge for it). It's worth it in the long run.

Correct. They used to read the codes for you but not anymore.

But they have the rental units you can 'rent' for free.

It's a $69 deposit while you use the computer. When you are done with it, they give you the $69 back.

They just hold the money so that you do not take off with their equipment.

alright thanks. the first store i called told me they do it, not rental "free" etc. i just called another store though and thats pretty much the answer i got. thanks.

You welcome ;)

alright a little update if anyone is interested for future purposes. autozone basically lets you use the machine for free. they will charge you $184 upfront let you use it for 24 hours, then bring it back and get your money back. now my problem is misfire in cylnders 1 and 3, multiple cylnder misfire. P0300, P0301, P0303. Ill post in tech forum.

Good luck with that.

Thanks for the update.

I was thinking you could always go see Remi in Westminster anbd he can run the codes for you ;)

Worst case senaro Etan is a bad PCM.

The upside is you can still drive half the way to Chicago, wheel the mud and gunk in Indiana, cover most of the stops in Illinios, and drive all the way back it that condition. :D

hey ron, ya im not too worried. the light has actually been on for couple weeks now, in hopes of it just resetting itself which wasn't the case. the rough idling is a little annoying though. ill call up jeep and see what they think about possible solutions for those codes and take it from there. thanks for the input.

TSB 18-010-01. Needs a flash update, if you are out of warranty expect to pay 1 hr labor to have it done.

I had the dealer try that somewhere in St.Louis. It was a loser.

But hey, I was grasping at straws. :D

alrighty, got the problem all fixed up. bought a new coil, fixed the problem. i drove it around, to heat up, shut it off, waited couple min, and started again, testing to see if it would run rough but never did. drove it around rest of the day with no problems. wasn't too expensive at $142, i would of had to pay jeep $89 just to diagnose the engine light. so not too bad of a deal in the end thanks all who replied.
